One of the goals I set for myself this year was to get out from behind my camera more and connect with other small business owners in the Triad. And I’m so glad I did!

I met Stephanie through Women in Networking (WIN) and recently had the pleasure of getting her in front of my camera!

Stephanie is the face behind Clear Path Marketing, where she specializes in Google Ads and helps businesses get found by the people already searching for them. She’s working on a new website and wanted some fresh images that reflect her personality and give her more ways to show up in her marketing.

One of my favorite things about WIN is that it’s about more than referrals and talking business. We cheer each other on, share ideas, and build genuine friendships along the way.

And getting to work with women like Stephanie is an added bonus! I love learning about their businesses, hearing their stories, and creating images that help them show up confidently in their marketing.

Senior photos shouldn’t come with homework for Mom.

Last night, a mom told me my in-home wardrobe consultation was one of the reasons she booked with me. She didn’t want to stress about figuring out what her daughter should wear.

So I came over, we went through her closet, pulled outfits together, and talked about the best places to show them off. I also met the horses, who had very little to contribute to the discussion, sadly. 😂

This is a core part of my senior experience. I want to see what you love wearing, help you decide what photographs well, and make sure the outfits and locations work together. You don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe or create another project for the family.

The finished photos matter. So does everything it takes to get there.

One of my favorite things about senior photography is figuring out how to get the most out of a location. And a local fair? SO much to work with!

But there’s more to it than just finding a fun background.

I’m always looking at how my subject and the colors in an outfit play off the surroundings. Sometimes I want them to complement each other, sometimes I want a little contrast. I’m looking for interesting backgrounds, good light, and ways to incorporate movement, whether that’s a spinning ride or a dress tossed in the air. And I’m always keeping an eye out for the unexpected!

And then there’s the challenge of shooting in a crowded space. Finding clean(ish) backgrounds, working around people, watching for distractions, knowing when to wait for the right moment or move three feet to the left. And yes, knowing what I can take care of in Photoshop. 😂

It’s a lot of little decisions happening in real time, and that’s one of the things I love most about what I do.

I did not plan to become a senior photographer.

I spent years building a career in another industry. When that chapter changed, I had to learn how to trust myself enough to build something new. I think about that when I photograph seniors at the edge of their own next chapter. They do not have to know exactly who they will become to deserve to see how remarkable they already are. And yes, I still get emotional about it.

Give me pretty light and a field of flowers and I’m a happy photographer.

We caught the prettiest little stretch of golden hour with Katie and I could have stayed out there forever. The light just kept getting better, including that last bit of direct sun that I will absolutely make you stop everything for.

Class of 2027 and hello 2028: If senior pictures are on your radar, now is a really good time to start thinking about what you want yours to feel like.
