Some helpful photographer tips I’ve learned.
Let authentic moments play out. Sure, move distractions, but don’t get caught up in making the perfect shot and delaying what’s their big day.
Be casual, but professional. Help them laugh, and guide them from one moment to the next. When this is done well, more formal portraits don’t feel as stiff.
When there’s a lull or delay in photos, go ahead and start capturing reception details. If it’s not ready, snoop around and see if there’s any detail worth capturing on its own. I had no idea they had personalized cake knives!
Be aware of your surroundings during ceremony. Capture everything. Of course the bride and groom when they laugh, but also, look for the parents. What are they doing? It’s a huge moment for them too.
Schedule sunset portraits in your timeline, even if for just 10 minutes — or don’t! I always am very forward with my clients, even day of. If you decide you’d rather enjoy more cocktail hour time with family and friends, you aren’t going to hurt my feelings. It’s your big day. Let’s capture it your way.
All these things together lead to a wonderful wedding experience and your clients will love you for it. And odds are you’ll be just as happy with yourself as they are. 🤍
