Here's something I wish more people knew before booking a senior session: Drive by your location before you decide 🫣 Sounds simple. Almost nobody does it.

Go out around the same time of day your session would be scheduled. See what the light actually looks like. See how the space feels when you're standing in it. Does it match what you had in your head?

Sometimes it does. Sometimes you realize pretty quickly it's not right... and that's completely okay! It's so much better to find that out before the session than during it.

You want to make sure you find somewhere you can actually let loose. If the environment feels unfamiliar or uncomfortable, that tension shows up in the photos. Your personality is the whole point of senior portraits. The right location is just what helps it come through!

Every summer, it starts the same way... "We should really get family photos done this year." And then life happens, the kids are in a phase, the schedule is packed, and somehow back to school activities show up before you ever hit that booking button 🙃

I get it. There is never a perfectly easy moment to make it happen. But here is what I know after photographing so many families: the messy, busy, real version of your family right now is exactly worth documenting. The little one still grabbing your hand. The older kids growing up faster than you are ready for.

Okay, real talk...

I just opened my books for the rest of 2026, and between weddings and mini session dates, my weekends are almost completely gone through the end of the year. There are still some great dates available before the holidays but 'still available' has a shorter shelf life than most people expect.

If you're already booked, I am SO excited for your session! (I also just found a new studio spot that I am completely head over heels for and cannot wait to show you.) If you're not on the calendar yet, this is me, genuinely, telling you: now is the time 😁

It's been a minute since we approached this subject: Let's talk outfits ☺️

Start with dressing mom. Find something you're comfortable in and allows you to move around without adjusting a bunch. That outfit will dictate the color palette for the rest of the outfits. Pick a similar style of shirt but nothing that matches completely.
