Death of the C note… it can now only be found in music.

They won’t kill it because it failed.
They’ll kill it because it works too well in the dark.
Cash doesn’t need a password.
Cash doesn’t remember where it has been.

Maybe that’s why they want it buried.

From above, you are looking at the Court of Three Stars, the northern anchor of Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. The three stars mirror the Tennessee flag and represent the state’s three Grand Divisions: East, Middle, and West.

Encircling it are 50 columns that hold a 95 bell carillon, a nod to Tennessee’s 95 counties and the state’s deep musical roots. The bells play tunes tied to Tennessee, including “Tennessee Waltz” on the hour.

Between one city and the next, you can find these rusted relics tucked into sleepy, forgotten towns.

You’ll roll through thinking it is just another stretch of road, and then it appears. A car half swallowed by tall grass, rust the color of old pennies, broken glass catching the light like it is trying to remember what it used to be. It feels less like abandonment and more like a pause. Like the story stopped mid sentence and the world simply moved on.

I love how places like this hold time differently. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is polished. Nature takes what it wants, and what is left behind becomes a quiet monument to the lives that passed through.

Pablo Ferrando.

Music is a beautiful thing.
It is a map. It is a bridge.
It is the kind of language that can take you from one familiar stage to a completely different corner of the world and still feel like home.

My thread to Pablo () and started through the crew in Cookeville, TN, and it has only proven one thing over and over: a DIY community reaches farther than you think when it is built on sound, sweat, laughter, and people showing up for each other.

In 2025 that thread stretched across oceans, from Rustic Stomp in Dorset to the homestead Muddy Roots back in Tennessee, and into the studio with Jason Dietz, where you get to see artists exhale and hear what they are really chasing. That is where I watched Pablo do what he did best: hold space, listen deeply, and help shape the emotion inside the music.

Then life did that wild thing where worlds collide. We landed in Los Angeles the day of an Angry Zeta show, right as my kids’ holiday break started, and they were instantly all in. Now it is road trip soundtrack status. Even my younger child will ask for Disney, then switch it up and say, “Never mind. What about some Angry Zeta?”
Later, being invited to photograph Muddy Roots Buenos Aires showed me the bigger ripple. The friendships. The hands-on work. The love that builds something real. It made me understand even more clearly how much Pablo lifted up the people around him and how far that energy keeps traveling.

Photo of me by .w.p.kobler thank you for this image of me.

This planet is my “God”

The human species is a stark reminder of how ruthless nature truly is.

On a micro level, we find mercy and grace. In small moments. In relationships. In the quiet ways we choose one another. Those things are real.

But when we zoom out, the wider tapestry comes into focus. Life and death interwoven. Expansion and collapse repeating. A species that learned how to bend the environment faster than it learned how to live within it.

We are not villains in a myth. We are a force of nature. Clever. Adaptive. Extractive.

So the question becomes: what are we terraforming our way toward?

If nothing changes, toward a quieter planet. One that will recover without us. Nature does not mourn. It recalibrates.

If something does change, toward something unprecedented. A self-limiting apex species. One that values continuity over domination. That would be the true anomaly.

The universe does not care which path we take.

Meaning only exists locally. In rooms. In families. In moments witnessed rather than consumed. In choosing to document instead of erase. In raising children who might become better ancestors than we were.

Maybe mercy was never meant to scale.

Maybe it was always meant to be chosen.

So, what is my New Year’s resolution? To lean into those moments to document.
