It's that time of year here in southern Arizona. My friend Susan Hershey, is my owl and hawk mentor and she has a way of finding these magnificent birds. Susan has named the male on the right, Simon and his mate on the left, Sadie. It will be fun to watch and photograph these mating pair and others who make their home in Southern Arizona. I'm lucky to have a patient photographer friend to share the joys of nature.

A visit to the Sonoran Desert Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum outside of Tucson Arizona on a lovely day In February. The Raptor Free Show is awesome but the crowds are huge and it limited to four days a week. Be prepared to stand in the sun for at least 1 1/2 hours. It is a crowd pleaser. The overall museum is more than a zoo, it is a Botanic Garden and the Penstemon is gorgeous this year.

My love of Ravens goes way back from childhood: folklore, tricksters, mysticism to present day photographic challenges. I need the right lighting to capture detail of a black animal without overexposing the image.
I recently read The Mind of a Raven : Investigations and Adventures with Wolf-Birds is a 1999 book by Bernd Heinrich. Now I am beginning to learn about Ravens outside of folklore.
