‘Bandit Masks’

The Common Yellowthroat is a tiny, very energetic warbler. It has an olive-brown back and glowing, lemon-yellow throat. The adult males have a black face mask that give it a masked bandit look.

‘Gorgeous & Great’

With its rich, rusty-orange wings, the Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly is beautiful to catch with the camera during the early morning or evening light. The upper wings are fiery orange and layered with dark patterns. The under wings are more of a warm brown and have yellow spots and bands. Quite beautiful.

‘Striking Colors’

A new species for me, that I’ve not seen or photographed before. The Rose-breasted Grosbeak, has striking colors with its bold black and white with a bright red patch on the chest of the males. It also has a distinctive, thick, heavy bill for crushing seeds.

‘Peekaboo’

This little fawn, hiding in the tall grass, no more than 20 feet in front of me, decided to play peekaboo, while I was photographing it.

‘Vibrant Colors’

While doing some dispersed camping in Reacher Hill State Forest back in July, I saw quite a few Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and Monarch butterflies migrating though the area. Their bright colors made for a nice contrast against the soft backgrounds within the forest.

‘Sunrise on Dunkirk Harbor’

While traveling along Lake Erie’s Coastline, along Highway 5, I stopped one early morning, at the Dunkirk City Pier, to photograph the sunrise. The layered clouds caught the early morning glow, highlighting soft pinks and bright orange light across the water and sky.

‘Still Standing’

Traveling along Highway 5, along the Mohawk River, just east of Amsterdam, New York, stands the old Amsterdam Steam Generation Station, then owned by Adirondack Power and Light. Built in 1920, the facility produced electricity with steam generation until 1950. It was then shut down due to less expensive hydroelectric generation. The building was sold off and is currently used for storage. It is a striking site as you travel by and see its white walls, arched windows that are 5 stories tall, and the contrasting four black smoke stacks reaching for the sky.

‘Playtime’

I was taking an early morning stroll with my camera when I came across this family of foxes also getting an early start to the day. Mama stood on the stone wall overseeing her kits having a play session. What a joy it was to witness their early morning activities.

‘Maine’s crown jewel’

Mount Katahdin, in Baxter State Park, is the highest summit in Maine, standing at 5269 feet. It is a very scenic backdrop from many places surrounding it. I took some photos, as the sun was setting behind me, from west of the mountain at The Cribworks Rapids, in the Penobscot River. The following morning, south of the mountain, I took some photos of the sunrise and mountain looking across Millinocket Lake. Enjoy.
