Kids bring a whole other perspective to a wedding day.

I'm a father of six (that sounds wild to me too) and it's taught me that we all need to chill out and learn from these crazy little people.

Sometimes it's sad to see how we adults have lost our sense of wonder. Kids bring that back.

A child at a wedding will pause to look at butterflies resting on the ground.

They'll run around like wild, barefoot in the grass and not have a care in the world. They'll suddenly stop running to admire the most beautiful leaf they've ever seen. They'll instantly make friends with another child they've never met before.

I get it, kids at weddings aren't always "perfect." To some they seem like a liability. They're kids after all, they're messy, emotional at times, and prone to accidents. But that's part of the beauty they bring.

To have the best things in life you also have to accept the mess.

Their imperfections remind us that a wedding doesn't have to be perfect (whatever that even means).

They remind us to wonder and have awe in simple things.

They remind us it's ok to feel big things.

They teach us to make friends fast, to slow down, and to savor the moment.

I'm always following the stories that children bring to a wedding. Think about what it'll be like to look back at these images in 20 years with them?

What do you want to remember 50 years from now?

For M+L, the night before their wedding they invited family and friends together for a rehearsal dinner.

They wanted to give time for connection together before everything got officially started the next day

50 years from now, this image of a few family members crowding together for a quick photo op will tell countless stories.

Over the last few years I've been seeing couples opt to have coverage before their wedding day, at a rehearsal dinner or a welcome night.

Maybe it's the first time in years that you've seen that one friend...

or maybe it’s the first time the moms from either side meet each other...

or maybe the best man gives a speech that brings everyone to tears.

Personally, I have loved this shift, with couples seeing that there are meaningful moments happening before their wedding day.

What else will happen that would be worth documenting?

What would you like to remember in 50 years?

It's not about photography.

It's about a sacred commitment. A sacred commitment to spend the rest of your life loving one person, in sickness and in health, in the good times and bad.

It's about your connection. Connection with the people and the relationships that brought you to this point.

And it's about the celebration, about making this life changing day memorable.

So no, this day isn't about photography, but photography is the way you'll remember why it all mattered.

Hai and Kimberley, but just in black and white.

It highlights for me the range of emotions they experienced, powerfully bringing into focus what mattered — their people and each other.

Thanks Hai and Kimberley for inviting me in to document what mattered most.

The sun was setting, we were walking back after a few minutes of portraits, and this line of birds in the shape of an arrow flew right over us. I know nothing about good or bad omens, but it was just cool!

Hai and Kimberley's day was FULL of connection. The camera didn't drive what happened, their experience did. Their laughter, moms tears, crazy dance floor moments and quiet ones by the river.

I felt blessed to be able to document it all. What a great spring wedding.

Five years? It's happening more and more 🤯

I get nostalgic, I go looking through my old galleries and discovery gems. This set is from the wedding of Scotty and Sarah, good friends of our family who got married in their church just a few blocks from their home.

It was a wedding that felt intensely personal. When you know people well, as I do Sarah and Scotty, trust allows for easy closeness and authenticity.

Images like this, ones filled with your real story don't come by forgetting the camera is there. Let's face it, it's impossible for me to be invisible.

Images like these are a result of trust, and trust takes time.

Trust is the reason why I make it a priority to get to know my couples ahead of their weddings, doing multiple calls and an in-person meeting so I can get solidified in your story.

I’ll invite couples into a story-driven approach, one where I’ll get to know you and understand who and what is most important. That insight will be the foundation, but trust and access will lead the way.

I'm so grateful I could get these memories for Sarah and Scotty, happy five and here's to many more!! 🥳🎉

My couples value family, they value time together with the people who matter most.

What's one way to do that?

One answer - long tables with a family style meal.

Jason and Nazhin's wedding dinner was not only about having excellent food, it was about the experience of being at the table.

Talking with the person next to you.

Meeting new friends, catching up with old ones.

Passing the plates.

Listening.

Sharing.

Laughing.

This was two families being made one through the dinner experience.

It was the perfect way to bring everyone together.

What's more important, images of napkins and food, of things that don't last, or of your people and your story?

What will you want to remember decades from now when you tell your kids what life was like before they were here?

What stories will you want to tell your grandkids about what their grandfather was like in his 30's

You won't have real stories to tell unless you actually LIVE your wedding day.

My encouragement to you? Have a plan, be intentional, but once you get to your wedding day, simply live. Let the day unfold naturally.

As you commit your lives together and celebrate with the people who matter most, let you presence lead you.

I'm right there with you, living and documenting in an artful way that draws you into the moment but doesn't break you out of it. You deserve to have memories that were true to your experience.

I guide when necessary, I encourage when needed, but I never change the moment happening in front of me.

Together, that's how we'll get images that will be full of your actual story, giving you real memories you'll be sharing decades into the future.

"You're never in the way."

"Live your life."

"You're part of the story!"

Too many times I see people, usually guests, try to avoid the camera. On a certain level, I get it. But I also don't get it.

The couple invited YOU and they want to see YOU in their images 30+ years from now.

They want to remember YOU.

On a wedding day, I'm chasing after the story, the feeling of what it was like to be there. You are a part of that story and I'm so glad you're in it.
