Rob Jinks Photography Presence-led photography for weddings and family life, to notice and document what’s sacred, and turn it into heirlooms you’ll return to for decades to come.

Imagine opening up your wedding album on your anniversary, or using it to share stories with your kids (or grandkids) one day.

I remember my own grandmother telling me about her life and what the world was like in the late 1950's through the lens of her wedding images.

When you interact with your wedding memories via a physical album something powerful happens, something different from the experience you get on a screen.

This is why every one of my couples get's an heirloom album.
To me it's non-negotiable. The album IS the final product and the best way you'll return to your memories for years to come.

Looking back, 50 years from now, FEELING the story, KNOWING that you really lived it, and REMEMBERING how you loved and are loved.

THAT'S what I want for my couples.

Big thanks to Addison and Bundl for inviting me into their story, and for HQO for being such a fun place to have a party!

I think it's great to not take ourselves too seriously 😂

I see humor a lot at weddings days. Maybe it's something I found funny, or I see people laugh and react to something happening.

Humor comes to my mind a lot, I see funny things all over. If you know me well enough, you'll start to see it come out.

Weird obscure quotes (probably from The Emperor's New Groove).

Giggling at something stupid, word play, dad jokes. Laughing at something that didn't go right (because what else can you do sometimes).

Whatever it is, I love this part of how I notice the world.

How do you keep what matters most front and center when there are so many things pulling you away?

At this point, we've moved through all of our major summer activities. Summer camp, beach vacation, family trips, hosting friends, birthdays, and more. And in the middle of it our twins are nearing nine months old 🤯. I've been grateful for a fairly slow wedding schedule this summer, allowing for deeper connection with family and friends. I didn't feel the pull away from family that I sometimes can.

I think it's a similar pull that couples can feel as they plan and approach their wedding. There are SO many things vying for your attention. It's an important time to pay attention to what you pay attention to.

It can be helpful to ask:

What is distracting me from enjoying this season of wedding planning?

What would make the time leading up to my wedding day more enjoyable and meaningful?

What matters most, OR what do I need to keep coming back to to remind myself of why this all matters?

That's what I tried to do this summer. I didn't do it perfectly, I felt guilt from "getting behind" and got distracted by mindless entertainment. But I moved forward each time and keep family front and center. Apart from keeping on top of upcoming fall weddings, it was good to let work take a bit of a back seat.

I'm curious, as the summer comes to a close, how could you remind yourself of what matters most this fall?

Do you get excited when it rains? I do, but not for the reason you might expect.

It has rained a LOT in the last month. One of those storms came during Andrew and Kelly's wedding, starting around an hour before the ceremony.

Not ideal to say the least, especially when their wedding was at such a beautiful venue like Airlie.

First, props to Meghan Farrar for moving us to plan b without a hitch. Everything went smoothly, we got indoors and had a very successful day.

But the rain is now forever a part of their wedding. My goal was to show that story, not try to pretend it didn't happen.

So, I posted up at this window right as Meghan was about to walk Kelly to the indoor ceremony site. Looking through the glass to see the rain, Kelly walked arm and arm with Meghan, umbrella up, taking it all in stride.

Big props to Andrew and Kelly for taking this change like champions. They didn't let it get in their heads. They continued to have the best time ever with their people.

This reflects life in every way, there are countless things out of our control and a wedding day is no different. That lack of control is what brings beauty and a story we could never have planned for or expected.

I don't get excited because of the rain itself, but because of the exciting change it brings to the story.

It's the change that get's me excited.

Matt and Jenn weren't my "average" couple. They weren't in their 20's or 30's and this wasn't their first rodeo. But they wanted exactly what all of my couples are after.

On our first call together Jenn told me she wanted to see the "emotion and the meaning" of the day. It wasn't about spectacle first, though they did want to have frame-worthy portraits from the top of the mountain. Their day was centered on faith, family, and the commitment they were making before God.

What do you mean you don't want getting ready photos?

Oh I understand. You don't want lame, boring, only pretty, typical Instagram wedding fodder getting ready photos.

I don't either.

Every one of these images was taken before Gabby and Brian's ceremony. This was their "getting ready" time.

I prefer to think of it as "prep and connect" (but I'm still workshopping that 😅).

Yes you're getting ready, but that's not the primary story.

What's happening all around your time of preparation is connection. It's deeply personal time with the people you love, those closest family and friends who have always rooted for you, supported you, held you, comforted you.

During this time I'm watching for images that show those kinds of stories.

Those are stories you'll want to remember 50 years from now.

“I’ve never seen my mom cry before.”

“The flower girl said this was the best day of her life.”

“There’s too many great ones, how will we choose?”

Those are just a few sentiments John and Jenna expressed at their reveal celebration. As I unveiled their images to them in person the memories started pouring back in.

The first dance with his mom where he could see exactly how much she loves him.

The memories with her Dad throughout the day, seeing how tender and proud he was of her.

The little side stories that they never even saw on the day but get to experience now.

Thank you Jenna, John, and all your family and friends for welcoming me into your story!

And a big thanks to Amanda, with White Pumpkin
