My wife and I had the true pleasure of catching the final public viewing for the summer of “Red Brick Blue Tarp”, a documentary film about the tornado that left north city devastated. The recovery is far from over and the need is still great. Films like this show the true beating heart of community in times of tragedy and just how much our systems fail certain parts of our society through disinvestment and refusal to provide basic needs in crisis situations. These natural disasters will continue and this film reminds us just how much we need to embrace our neighbors so we know who to call for in the dark and who to organize with when our government abandons us.

Please continue to donate to North City orgs if you can. It’s still needed in so many areas.

This film is beautiful and heartbreaking… but hopeful. The definition of “We keep us safe”. I was honored to capture some stills of the night as well as this video of the incredible band playing the score to the film along with Câmi Thomas (Câmara Ashanti Cruz Thomas) reading some of the poetry.💜
