The sunshine is out and the temperatures are rising. It appears that winter is on its last leg. It has been a pretty tame one this year. I will miss scenes like this. Hopefully next winter will hold more promise. .

It has been quite a busy time. I am still taking a lot of photos and getting out as much as I can to travel around not only my home state of Michigan, but other states as well. Like most of us, COVID had an effect on us in some way, shape or form. It gave us the itch to get out and travel again.

I spent the last few years working in a corporate office and trying to travel as much as I could on the weekends. I have enjoyed experiencing new things and have learned quite a bit in my travels. I have also started on a new adventure in terms of a career which really fits in with my love of travel. The path to new discoveries is a winding path filled with many adventures. I am excited to see where this path takes me. If nothing else, I am grateful for the personal growth in my search for new adventures.

Last fall I went to Vermont to see the fall colors. It was spectacular peak colors as we made our way through the state. No matter what road you ventured on, there were vibrant colors and scenery at every turn.

The best time to see peak colors in Vermont is during the last week of September and the first week of October. Any fall trip to the state is worth the visit as you will encounter not only great leaf peeping opportunities, but also small country stores, cider mills, and plenty of places that offer maple flavored syrup, ice cream, donuts and candies.

It has been a rough couple of years. Having been diagnosed with Anxiety and Diabetes within the last year has found me having to change up my lifestyle and habits to ensure good physical and mental health. In the age of Covid, it has not been easy. I am excited for the new year.
I have been doing a little bit more walking lately. It is not only good for physical health, but mental health as well. I am looking forward to getting back on the trails and doing some hiking. I look forward to all the new and small discoveries that I find along the way.
The photo below is from a couple years ago in Aman Park. We just had a nice snowfall and should see more snow in the month to come. Hopefully my hikes will lead me to some more beautiful scenery like this. Have a great 2022 everyone!

Wow. It does get cold in the U.P.

There was an unfamiliar sight at Kitch-iti-kipi, the Big Spring, this week: It was covered in a layer of ice.

I recently switched the title of my page after a long break away. The past has been a challenge for most of us to say the least. In the past year, I struggled with anxiety and diabetes while dealing with the pandemic. Photography has always been a passion of mine, but as the pandemic hit, it seemed like it was so insignificant for the life and times we were living through.

As we start to move forward and out of this pandemic, I am a bit more hopeful and optimistic; not because we are heading out of the pandemic, but rather having the opportunity for a bit of self discovery. Anxiety has taught me that there is a need for reflecting on all the things I am grateful for. Finding the simple pleasures in life is what keeps me going and keeps most of us going. In some cases it is like walking along a winding road where you never know what new adventure lies in front of you.

This is why I changed the name. I will still showcase my photography, but I also want to share things that just make us smile. From a video of a cute animal to a piece of artwork that can inspire us all. The world can be an ugly place and too often reflected on social media. The winding path to new discoveries invokes happiness, kindness, calmness and a desire for new and exciting adventures. I hope you will join me on this journey.

A few weeks ago, I suggested volunteering at a local dog shelter to pass the time during the winter months. Here is another dog that I met at one of the local shelters. She was more than content to get a little human attention and sure did love her treats. Who could resist this face!

Hiking the dunes at Silver Lake State Park during the winter can be a challenge, but it can also be a little easier than hiking through in the summer. When winter has really set in the dunes will freeze up The further into the dunes you get on the higher elevations, the easier it is to walk on as they are often frozen. Many times it is like walking on concrete The challenge comes at the entry point to the dunes where snow drifts mixed with the sand can make access to the dunes difficult. I recommend heading out on the dunes during the winter as you are able to see the ghost forest and the surrounding dunes from a different vantage point.

While on a winter photography trip to Pentwater, I discovered that many will get up early in the morning to do a little fishing. Cold temperatures, cold water and a snowy day won't keep the dedicated away. This just struck me as what a Michigan winter is all about.
