Dear Friends,
Going forward, you’ll notice that portions of image previews will be unavailable to view and displayed in lower resolution. Unfortunately, screenshotting photos has become increasingly common. I completely understand the excitement of wanting to save moments of your athletes, dancers, and performers, but it does make it difficult to sustain this work long term.
Photography is so much more than simply showing up with a camera. Behind every gallery are expenses for equipment, software, travel, insurance, editing time, and countless hours dedicated to creating and delivering these memories. Even photographers who occasionally share images “for free” are still personally investing significant time and resources into their work.
This year, I’ve continued photographing games, shows, and events with the only cost being the purchase of the final images themselves. I truly love capturing these moments and being able to give back to teams, schools, yearbooks, and our community whenever possible. But when images are screenshotted instead of purchased, it becomes harder to continue providing this service in a sustainable way.
Because of this, going into next year I’ll likely be making some significant changes to how galleries and event coverage are handled moving forward.
My family and I have sacrificed a great deal of time, energy, and personal resources so I can continue being present at events and documenting these memories for other families. I simply want to be able to keep doing what I love for years to come.
I hope this offers a little perspective, and I genuinely appreciate those who respect and value the work behind every image.
Thank you,
The Unruly Shutter
