James and Kaley, an August day in northern Michigan, and a day that never once felt rushed. There was a stunning breeze up at Starry Night Barn all afternoon, one moment easing into the next. Hardly any nerves. A lot of excitement, a lot of happy tears, and more laughter than I can remember hearing in a long while. Every season of family life holds something worth remembering. Even the busy ones. Even the messy ones. Even the ones when getting everyone dressed and out the door feels like a small miracle. You don’t always recognize what’s changing while you’re living it. Then you look back at a photograph and realize how much you loved that little version of your life.

There’s something overwhelmingly beautiful about photographing people you’re walking alongside in life.

I remember when Megan and I were pregnant with our first babies at the same time. Since then, I’ve watched her family grow, cheered them on from states away, and now get to share a home state with them again.

Looking through these photos, I see all the years that brought them here. What a gift to know this family and to photograph them as they are today.

The kind of couple who said, “We trust you!” and wholeheartedly meant it.

Photographing them felt easy, joyful, and genuinely fun.

Their wedding at Bella Giornata in Byron Center was filled with gorgeous details, plenty of laughter, and so many sweet moments shared with their son. The heartfelt words, loving glances, and little touches between the three of them made an already beautiful day feel even more special.

Eight years ago, I had the honor of photographing Vinnie and Sarah as they promised their lives to one another. Now, I get to photograph the beautiful family that has grown from those promises.

There is something incredibly meaningful about witnessing how life has changed & preserve the love that has deepened along the way.
