You have probably seen our posts about La Huasteca and how wonderful the owners Jessica and Salvador are. We have the pleasure of calling them our friends. They really are amazingly hardworking people, and some of the kindest people we know.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the devastating news that Jessica and Salvador’s nine year old son Iker has passed away.

This hardworking family is the embodiment of the American dream. They moved here from Mexico in search of a better life, and worked in various restaurants until they could scrape together enough money to buy La Huasteca. They survived the shutdown during the Covid 19 crisis and have consistently been there to help others in the community.

Now they are the ones who need help. They just invested all of their savings into repairing and renovating the restaurant, with nothing left over for the unexpected costs of burying their son.

The average cost of a funeral is $9500, which is a lot to absorb for the owners of a small restaurant supporting two families. Let’s rally together as a community and at least remove the financial toll of this heartbreaking time for the Oliveros family.
