After months of cloudy nights, last night offered it's spoils. M51 - The Whirlpool Galaxy, resides 31 million light years from Earth, and is gravitationally interacting with a smaller neighboring galaxy. Enjoy another astrophoto from a backyard in Michigan!

It's been a hard winter so far with cloudy nights, rain, snow, and just generally bad shooting conditions. The past few weeks have afforded 2 decent nights of imaging. Please enjoy the Horsehead Nebula and Orion Nebula...shot from the backyard!

It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks, but finally after a few weeks of work, weather, troubleshooting, tweaking, and more troubleshooting…I think I have an image worth sharing.

This is M33, The Triangulum Galaxy. It is the third largest galaxy in our local group, behind the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxies. It resides around 2.7 million light years from earth and contains an estimated 50 billion stars.

This was shot with my recently-purchased, used Celestron EdgeHD 11” Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope and a ZWO ASI294MM-Pro (monochrome) dedicated astronomy camera. It is the result of approximately 5 hours of exposures.

Been trying to work a bit on the processing side of things. Here is IC5070, The Pelican Nebula in the Hubble Palette (SHO). It resides around 1,800 light years away in the constellation Cygnus in close proximity to the North America Nebula and the star Deneb. Enjoy!

A start to my summer goal: M16 - The Eagle Nebula.

I've determined that this is my main object of focus this summer. This will be a continual focus of my efforts in the coming months.
