𝑻𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒅𝒐 πŸŒͺ️ π‘¨π’Œπ’“π’π’, π‘ͺ𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒐
Dieser Tornado entwickelte sich wenige 100 Meter von uns, wobei es zunΓ€chst so aussah, als ob er direkt auf unsere Position zuziehen wΓΌrde. Nach kurzer Verlagerung an einen sicheren Standort wenige Minuten weiter sΓΌdlich sahen wir...nur viel Staub. Kurze Zeit spΓ€ter schΓ€lte sich ein schΓΆner Schlauch aus dem staubigen Chaos und tanzte einige Minuten durch die sanften HΓΌgel der Umgebung.
Auch wenn ich in diesem Fall gerne etwas nÀher dran gewesen wÀre (was garantiert zu einigen Hagelbeulen geführt hÀtte) - finde ich diese Gesamtansicht eindrucksvoll ☺️ Außerdem ist es so deutlich entspannter und man kann das Beobachten genießen. Die Action und den Stress im Chaserstau brauch' ich nicht 😁
Was denkst Du? Lieber nah dran mit viel Action oder etwas weiter weg fΓΌr den Tornado mit Struktur?

𝑻𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒅𝒐 𝒖𝒏𝒅 π’—π’Šπ’†π’ 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒖𝒃
Mit 1,5km Breite war dieser staubfressende Tornado ein wahres Monster. Ein spektakulΓ€rer Anblick mit dem aufgewirbelten rotbraunen Staub, der mit hoher Geschwindigkeit in den Aufwind gesogen wurde und unter der sogenannten Kragenwolke heftig drehte. In der StaublΓΌcke links der Mitte sieht man auch dunkel abgesetzt einen "Satellitentornado", der im Randbereich fΓΌr zusΓ€tzlich Wirbel sorgte. Es wurde mit der Zeit derart viel Staub aus allen Richtungen herantransportiert, dass der Tornado sich nach einigen Minuten langsam hinter einer riesigen Staubwand versteckte.
Dieser EF2 Tornado war zum Glück grâßtenteils über Ackerland und verursachte daher keine grâßeren SchÀden. Ebenso die anderen (mindestens) 6 Tornados, die kleiner und kurzlebiger waren.
So beeindruckend die Stauboptik auch ist, so eklig ist der feine Staub, der sich überall (!) hartnÀckig festsetzt und für brennende Augen sorgt. Außerdem merke: Fahre nach Durchzug eines Gewitters mit 50km Durchmesser niemals nachts durch dessen Zugschneise im flachen Texas Panhandle - diese Seenlandschaft mâchte und kann man teilweise auch nicht im Dunkeln durchqueren!

𝑻𝒆𝒙𝒂𝒏 𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕 π’”π’–π’„π’Œπ’†π’“

There were so many things I loved about this day and especially this storm: The afternoon light with a lot of brown-reddish dust being pulled with force into the storm, the highly visible updraft rotating rapdily into the atmosphere straight above our heads creating some nice cloud structures, the clearly visible outflow boundaries being pushed out as the storms matured serving as trigger for the next storm to form rapidly.... Probably the most impressive feature of the storm shown in the image was the massive midlevel inflow band constantly feeding right into the updraft at high speed with massive amounts of dust flying into the storm!

This beauty was one of a few supercells born and raised in a Texas Panhandle conveyor belt πŸ˜‚
That day we were lucky to chase several storms that built up in the same area again and again using the same roads back and forth several times. When the storms first fired up it seemed like a big mess with quite a few right and left moving storms moving into and annihilating each other. It was a matter of timed decisions to leave one storm behind and heading to another one without being hit by the really huge hail (5 inch, 12 cm) some of these storms left behind.
Only the amount of dust that covered EVERYTHING in the car was insanely annoying 🀣

𝑯𝒐𝒕 π’Šπ’π’‡π’π’π’˜ π’”π’•π’π’“π’Ž
One of the coolest (indeed hottest) storm events for me during our stormchasing trip in the Great Plains. This huge tornadic supercell was fed by hot (90°F) and strong (50-60 mph) inflow winds from hell. Taking pictures and timelapse photos had been very challenging in these conditions with dust and rocks flying around. But the sights this beastly storm offered were so awe inspiring one had to stay and watch until the storm was seconds away to hit hard 🀣
Little did we know about the rainwrapped tornado at this point...

After three exhausting weeks of stormchasing in the US Great Plains I finally arrived back home. There were plenty of big and smaller storms to chase and photograph, some of them were magnificent in their structure, some of them had intense close lightning strikes like this one in Colorado.
