A Sea of Fire!

This Autumn has been nothing short of incredible. The other week when I took the hike up to Sawmill Dome, I almost couldn’t believe my eyes. Everything was just so… vibrant! I took this image, and I just knew everyone was going to think I just cranked on the saturation. But no- this is how it was. I thought about actually turning down the reds a bit just to avoid those comments but decided against it. This is how it looked to my eye, and that’s how I am keeping the image.

The Final Fire- the closing ceremony of the 2026 season of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival!

The final closing ceremony is quite special for the Renaissance Festival family. It’s full of shows, fire, and goodbyes. Many of the fire breathers gather together and create a giant fire blast… this is usually difficult to capture but I’m quite happy with how this turned out.

Pre-Dawn Colors in Northern Minnesota.

It was still dark when I arrived at the trailhead and started making my way toward this spot. There’s something I love about hiking in the quiet before dawn, knowing that if everything comes together, there might be an incredible sunrise waiting for me at the end of the trail.

This morning, everything came together. The sky absolutely lit up, and with the fall colors at their peak, I couldn’t have asked for a better reward for the early start.

WATCH UNTIL THE END to see the hidden lake!

I enjoy the greens of Spring and Summer. I’m not the biggest fan of the browns and whites of Winter. Sometimes I think that Fall is a gift of color before much of it is taken away for several months. Does anyone else feel this way?

Taking the Scenic Route. A drive through Lutsen, MN.

It’s a shame that gas prices are currently so high, because right now would be a great time to just go for a drive and check out all the Fall colors. Many areas along the North Shore have reached peak, and many other areas are getting ready to turn.

Bowl of Skittles, or an Ishihara Color Blind Test?

The Lutsen area of Minnesota is one of my favorite places to see Fall colors. Sure, a giant expanse of just red, just yellow, or just orange leaves would be neat, but I love the incredible variety of colors. This Birds Eye view looking straight down is a good example of this. I could spend hours searching for unique designs- kind of like looking at clouds- but with 100% more color!

Playing the Floor is Lava with the Fall colors!

Yesterday, I made the trek up Sawmill Dome in Little Marais, MN and found myself surrounded by the most vibrant Fall colors! It was like being surrounded by fire! Beautiful, and not very dangerous- FIRE!
