Not every photographer who offers branding photos has actually built the skills that make branding photography work. And that's not a dig — it's just the truth. Portrait photography and branding photography are genuinely different disciplines, and most people don't find that out until after the gallery lands in their inbox.

Here’s the thing about unity ceremonies: there is *no* one right way to do them. 💍

Historically, different cultures have had their own beautiful rituals — handfasting in Celtic traditions, the lasso in Latinx and Filipino weddings, the classic unity candle in Christian ceremonies. Today, you get to pull from tradition *and* your real life to create something that actually feels meaningful.

Your unity ceremony can be:
• Painting a canvas together and hanging it in your home
• Pouring water from your hometown rivers into one jar
• Building a cairn with rocks you’ve collected on trips
• Sharing a joint or taking a shot with your guests
• Making a PB&J, brewing coffee and creamer, or lighting a campfire
• Getting matching tattoos (!!), combining dice, or sealing an anniversary wine box

The “rule” is simple: choose something that tells your story, honors what you love, and feels natural in the flow of your ceremony.

Yes, your dog can legally sign your Colorado marriage certificate as a witness 🐕💕

I am NOT kidding.

Because witnesses aren't required in Colorado, anyone (or any creature) can sign as a witness if you want them to. Including your pup!

Some of my favorite dog witness moments:
🐾 Paw prints stamped on the certificate
🐾 "Witnessed by: Cooper (Best Dog)"
🐾 Dogs wearing bow ties/flower collars for the signing
🐾 Couples having their dog "present" the rings

NOTE: Some counties have stopped accepting paw prints on official documents, so check with your county clerk first if you're planning this!

But even if they won't accept actual paw prints, your dog can still be part of your ceremony in every other way. And honestly? Having your dog there for your vows is way more important than whether they can sign a piece of paper.
