This morning, I was compelled to do a drawing of the great Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., inspired by my favorite images of him that I’ve seen over the years. There are many quotes of his that inspire our world. This particular quote seems to sum up the greatest human ability ~ to love.

fine tuning the universe

It’s always great when a piece of artwork sells, but it’s a real pleasure when a sale introduces you to new friends!

Yesterday, we had the privilege of delivering Pecking Order #1 to Jason and Paulette Cunningham in Mattawan, Michigan. They own a treasure of a coffee shop called Happy Days Cafe about an hour north of us.

Jason initially saw this piece as we posted snippets of its creation and then he inquired. Typically, we ship out of state purchases, however, after they decided to buy, we realized just how close they were and thought that a delivery was appropriate and that a personal delivery was a good trade for breakfast and a cup of coffee!

Another serendipitous aspect of this trip was finding out that some of the imagery in this painting struck an emotional chord with both Paulette and Jason. When I do commissioned work, incorporating that type of symbolism is common, but when it is discovered by those who connect with an already finished piece, it feels really special.

It just also happened to be a beautiful day for a trip, which added another nice layer to this excursion!

Happy Days Cafe serves up great coffee drinks, delicious food, live music and most importantly, the owners are excellent human beings who provide a warm and inviting space for community and for those making a visit!
