"Those who have a 'why' to live, can bear almost any 'how.'" --Viktor Frankl
If you know anything about Viktor Frankl, then you know there have been few men on this earth who endured more than he.
I chose this quote because traditionally, the donkey has been the universal poster child for "burden".
In this case though, this donkey appears to carry only curiousity.
This photo was taken on June 5th, the day before the anniversary of D-Day and it is also why I chose the quote from Frankl...because it was less than a year after D-Day that Frankl would be liberated from the camps and the world would hear the lessons forged in torture which still resonate today.
During his time at Auschwitz, Viktor Frankl did something remarkable amidst his suffering.
He noticed that people who could find meaning in their suffering often endured far beyond what seemed possible.
In one of his most famous quotes, he said:
"When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves."
Imagine coming to that conclusion about yourself while in a N**i concentration camp.
So Frankl might look at this photo of the donkey and ask not what burden will it carry, but rather, "When the burden comes, what meaning will it find in carrying it?"
So let's ask ourselves...when the burden comes, and it inevitably will, what meaning will WE find in carrying it?
