Hiya! Hey, There! Yes, YOU!

It’s been a little while since we chatted. In case you forgot, I’m Katie - Colorado and destination elopement photographer and owner of Salt & Honey Photography.

I think we could be friends. Really! I do!.

A few things to help you get to know me:

I get really excited about little magical everyday things. A cozy yellow sweatshirt? Magical. ✨

I’m a mama. A boy mama. And no, not in that awful stereotypical caricature way. I’m a mama who’s here for all the rough and tumble play, the bugs, the dirt, the silly gross jokes, and the chaos. In fact, I embrace it. It’s my life and I enjoy living it. 🐛

I love wildflowers. If I see them out and about, I’m taking a photo. Every single time. My sweetheart husband helped me create a perennial native wildflower garden in our backyard and it brings me SO much joy. 💐

I am an AFOL. That’s Adult Fan of Lego if you didn’t know. Miniature anything makes me happy. I love the creativity and working on a Lego build is one of my preferred relaxation methods. 💁‍♀️

I love trying new foods. Especially local faves when traveling. Give me a lobster roll and a crisp cider in New England any day. And yes, I take pictures of my food. If it’s beautiful, I’m documenting. 🥪

I love traveling. Near, far, anywhere. If the place is different than my everyday little bubble, sign me up. I love home, but crave the wonder that only comes from seeing and experiencing somewhere and something new, often. 🗺️

I’m here for the bit. Especially if you or I have a specific idea or vision for your photos. As long as no one’s in real danger, breaking a law, and respecting nature and others, I’ll do just about anything. Rain? Doesn’t scare me if it doesn’t scare you. I’ve got umbrellas. ☔️

And finally - I will always stand by the fact that the back of my hair is never any of my business. Life is too short to get caught up in perfection. I don’t strive for perfect in your photos because I don’t aim for it in my own life.

What would you say? If I told you that you didn’t need to have a big traditional wedding to have the best day of your life?

If that’s what you want, then go for it. But if you’re thinking maybe it’s not? If you’re thinking that you don’t want to be the center of attention in a room filled with your great aunt’s half cousin’s neighbors? Then you don’t have to be. And you don’t have to have the big traditional wedding.

You can elope and your wedding can be just as special and memorable. More so even!

With a day (or days) built entirely around you, your favorite person, your love story, and your decision to spend forever together, you could have the most meaningful and intentional wedding day there is.

I help couples think outside the box. When you book your elopement with me, I’m not only your photographer but also your planner, coordinator, location scouter, permit handler, dream maker, and officiant if you want or need one to be legally married in your State (Yes! I’m legally ordained!).

Gone are the days where the only way to elope was at the court house with no celebration or with some Elvis impersonator. Whatever you truly want for your big day, you can have.

I’m not here to tell you how you should do it. I’m just here to help you make it a reality - anyway I can.

I’ve been hinting at how special I felt this session was. These photos were the last hurrah. The rain came down, the sunlight faded, and the flash came out.

They stopped posing, stopped focusing on the wedding aspect, and just played - barefoot, soaked, laughing at jokes only they understood.

There’s a little “way down in the river to pray” energy to this golden hour - less ceremony, more spell. 🌾💧

Ashtyn & Chris looked at this muddy water and saw home - the perfect place to exchange letters they’d so heartfeltly written to each other. 🤍

This creek runs gray-green, cloudy with the clay it’s pulled off its banks - not the postcard blue that outsiders expect, but something older and more honest.

And that’s a Mississippi summer for you. Humid air pressing in close, storms that roll through and leave everything a little stirred up. You don’t grow up in the deep south without learning to love water that looks lived-in.

Some folks want their wedding photos clean and blue and easy. But this - two people standing barefoot in water that’s seen some things - this is what love actually feels like in Mississippi. Thick. Raw. And a little wild.

The Windsor Ruins have stood over 160 years - the last remaining piece of a mansion built by slaves whose skill and labor raised something that stands so hauntingly today. Its history isn’t separate from its beauty.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History has made a significant effort in recent years to stabilize the columns and add historical plaques around the monument to ensure that its history may last for generations more.

This elopement was pretty special. My twin brother and his wife were married at a courthouse years ago with little pomp and circumstance. Chris & Ashtyn chose to do this shoot as both a vow renewal and as a way to capture photos they didn’t originally have.

It felt right to bring them to Windsor for their formal portraits. Golden light spilling through the 22 columns that have outlasted the home they once held up - a towering backdrop that asks you to sit with something bigger than yourself.

Later in the day, we traded the grandeur for bare feet, creek water, and champagne. A little reminder that their “wedding” day didn’t have to only hold the weight of their shared history. It could also celebrate the lightness of two people happy to spend time together. But for that, you’ll have to come back for part 2 😉
