🫎🥾🌲🪵🐾
Made a pit stop in Michigan on our trip over to California. While in Michigan, we went on a tiny adventure to Isle Royale National Park. It started with a 6 hour boat ride across Lake Superior- a nap and a monopoly game later we were at the islands. There was no cell service, WiFi, or any connection to anything other than to each other. We rented a boat and island hopped, realized we forgot our tent AND hammock AND pan to cook with, hiked in search of moose, jumped into the freezing cold water of Lake Superior, stayed up late playing monopoly, took a nap on the rocks to the sound of the waves lapping on the shore, slapped one too many a mosquito off of each other, ate burnt eggs for breakfast, watched the sunset and looked out at the lake where the calm water and sky blended, fell asleep to the sound of wolves howling and got some of the best sleep. Photos don’t do any of it justice. A much needed refresher. On to the next adventure

⚡️31⚡️
It was my birthday a few days ago, and I turned 31
I remember when I’d hear people in their 30’s say ‘I don’t feel old’ or ‘I’m not old’ and I’d think, okay sister you’re still old 😂 here I am, the big 3-1 and thinking- life is just starting, I don’t feel old at all. Okay sister, you’re still old. But really, this year has brought so much change for me and it’s only just getting started. When I think of 31 I think of a haircut (2 feet off to be exact!), I think of packing up and moving across the country, California, I think of my amazing family, I think of a good book, shrimp and grits, Pendleton, a West Coast bucket list, unconditional love, a lot of welcome change.
30 was the end of the movie, the end of the chapter, cut the hair off and the credits roll. 31 is the part 2, the sequel that nobody asked for but everyone needed.
Last year I’d avoid the age questions- ‘I’m 29+1’ ‘I’m in my 30’s’ in a whispered voice. Like what, am I ashamed?
No, because this year I’m saying, damn sis I’m 31! What a life I get to live!

⚡️WE’RE MOVING⚡️
I’ve posted some pretty heavy ‘hints’ that yes, we are moving! And actually very soon. At the end of June we’ll be moving out to the desert of Southern California.
We’ll be in Twentynine Palms which is right beside Joshua Tree (hello star gazing and hikes!)
I won’t be booking anymore Virginia sessions or weddings until we get our roots down and things settled (except for when we come back and visit!) which brings me to my next point: I’m thinking of posting some mini-minis soon (like my Christmas ones!) as a last hurrah for my Virginia friends. If you’ve ever wanted to have photos taken by me, this will be a great opportunity before we leave! If they generate enough interest I’ll set two dates 🤗
While I’m not sure where my little photography side hustle is going to go (other than also out to cali) I am just so excited for all of the opportunities coming up for our family 😭 follow along for our journey across the country over to the west coast, and for all of the adventures we’ll be taking while over there.

🏜Putting it out there that I want more sessions that involve off-roading-at-4am-to-get-to-an-epic-location. The kind that the whole jeep is rocking back and forth on the drive, the kind that you send it over hills and bumps. calls them the ‘whoopsies’ but later I talked to Myles and he said they’re *actually* called ‘the belly tickles.’ Whoopsies or belly tickles, I’m going to need more please 😛

🎓 made it over to the CNU campus for the first time ever for graduation portraits! I’ve seen the architecture and it’s been somewhere I’ve always been interested in shooting. Even better, I was able to take photos of this queen 😭 so excited for her and all of the things she’s worked so hard for that are coming up so soon!

🥾✨ Where do I even start? What an amazing experience this was, with some truly incredible souls. I had a short weekend away in Utah, photographing beauty and connecting with beautiful people.
I identify with my family- as a mother and as a wife. I love that. But when I reflect on who I am as an individual (which can certainly sometimes get lost in motherhood), my two favorite things are hiking and photography and that is what this entire trip was.
I met other creatives from all over, went off-roading, hiked in the rain, explored a new town, met and connected with some truly talented couples, slept in a cloud bed at .kanab, visited Zion again, the list goes on and on.
While I missed my family, I was super charged and ready to be back as the best mother and wife I can be. As a photographer, I have some incredible motivation and inspiration to bring back for my couples. It’s truly amazing to see how a weekend retreat in a magical place has touched all of the aspects of my life so positively.

2023: I want more candid, I want more play, I want more couples and families doing what’s unique to them. I want more adventure, I want more posts without overthinking, I want more real, more raw, more creativity. I want more riding off into the sunset together and grabbing burgers after. If you want these things too, let’s make some magic happen.
