We took a sunset sail aboard the Thomas E. Lannon a couple of nights ago. The evening was one of those perfect late summer nights just before the full Sturgeon Moon. The terns were chittering away, other passenger and working boats were coming and going and the egrets were approaching their nightly roosting spot on Ten Pound Island. In other words, peaceful and perfect. Here are some shots.

We returned to the water last night once again aboard the Ardelle for the weekly Maritime Heritage Charter Schooner Challenge. It was a PERFECT evening to be out. The schooners included Isabella, Thomas E. Lannon, Pigeon as well as Ardelle. Our captain was student Andrew with Harold Burnham as his mentor for the trip. Time on the water is a hidden cure for what ails you.

As promised, more Tall Ships photos. This time we sailed with Cape Ann Whale Watch to see Tall Ships departing Boston following a very successful Sail Boston. Though we did not see as many under full sail as I had hoped, I cannot complain about the absolute beauty, craftsmanship and seamanship that we did observe. In particular, we got to watch the seaman climb the rigging to reset the masts. What a show even if you can't really tell from the photos.

Our adventure today took us to Boston to sail with Boston City Cruises to see the Tall Ships in the Boston Harbor. Some of the images look a little grey or yellow due to the atmosphere from wildfires (or so I'm told). Anyhow, we made a good choice to take this trip as we saw many familiar schooners as well as several new ones from all over the world. Very impressive. We are going back out for the Grand Departure and Farewell Cruise. More photos to come!

We had a two sided adventure today at the Battle of Gloucester at Stage Fort Park. In the morning, we were aboard the Ardelle as a participant in the reenactment. Jim makes a pretty good redcoat...And in the afternoon we were on land for the skirmish in the Gloucester "village" that repelled the Brits out of Gloucester. It was a great event. Kudos to all the organizers especially Michael DeKoster and Ringo Tarr. Here's a few shots from the day.

I recently took a bird photography tour with Cynthia Rand (Facebook https://www.facebook.com/cynthia.c.rand) to view baby birds. I have taken several tours with Cynthia and this one is my favorite. The featured babies were these pileated woodpeckers (located off Cape Ann). I was asked to hold off posting these until the babies had fledged but here you go with their feeding along with a number of other bird encounters of a very full day. I got to photograph a scarlet tanager which I had never seen and was on my list! The black crown night herons are a favorite to watch as well. Thank you Cynthia for a wonderful adventure!

We were recently visited by a doe and her fawn who spent about an hour exploring the marsh area behind our apartment. It was interesting to watch their interactions as it seemed the fawn seemed to sometimes be imitating its mother. I felt I was watching life lessons in progress. Apparently the pair got a bit too close to a bird nesting area because we also observed the birds attacking the doe as if to chase them away. A little peak into Mother Nature at work.
