There’s something timeless about standing at the Continental Divide just as day surrenders to night. The fading glow on the horizon, the first stars appearing overhead, and the streak of passing headlights all remind us that the mountains never truly sleep. Moments like this are why I continue chasing light across Colorado — because even the quietest scenes can tell incredible stories when patience, timing, and nature align.

This image from Independence Pass captures that brief transition between blue hour and darkness, when the sky still holds color and the road carries travelers through one of Colorado’s most breathtaking high mountain landscapes. At over 12,000 feet, the air feels different here — colder, quieter, and filled with a sense of adventure that’s hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it yourself.
