Learn how to develop your photographic eye and vision to create images detailing light, composition, and form while making sense of everyday life on the street. Take your photography ideas to the streets.
We will meet at various locations in the Washington DC area to create urban landscapes, portraits and everyday life on the street. Camera required. This class runs from September 19 to October 24th.

Learn the best portrait photography techniques from accomplished photographer Frank Van Riper. In this class you will learn about compisition, posing, and gestures that make a portrait special. This class will meet on Saturdays in the Photoworks studio.

Students will have the opportunity to practice fundamentals of studio still life photography, including lighting, composing, and selecting subject matter. This class is camera-agnostic, and suitable for anyone, even phone photographers. An emphasis will be placed on skills and techniques that will allow students to take still life images at home with a minimum of equipment. This class meets on Wednesdays in the Photoworks Studio.

This course will expose students to the full cycle of black and white film photography from loading a 35mm camera to the final print. This class includes the fundamentals of film camera operation, film processing and printing, and basic lab safety protocols. This class will meet on Sunday 9/13 in the Photoworks Darkroom.

Photoworks is proud to present Timeless ‘26: Historic process Images by the Handmade Photo Group. This exhibition will be on view from August 29 through October 4, 2026. An opening reception and gallery talk will take place on Saturday August 29 from 4-6pm offering visitors an opportunity to meet participating artists and share insights about the work on view.

Featured artists include Paige Billin-Frye, Mac Cosgrove-Davies, Rebecca Doran, David Frey, Christopher Gumm, Phil Koenig, Roger A. Perdomo Cortes, Galen Requist, Alzira Lena Ruano, Sarah Strickler, and Alejandra Vallejo.

This is the next class in our series of new Fall darkroom classes. In this intermediate class taught by Kevin Meadows students will learn to refine their skills and strengthen their techniques in exposure, film development, and contrast control. This class will meet on Wednesday nights in the Photoworks darkroom from 9/9 to 10/28.
