SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA - Vehicle Fire - Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 2 PM, firefighters from the Springfield Vol. Fire Dept. were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 12070 West Lake Road. Initial dispatch information indicated that a caller reported seeing black smoke coming from a residence. While enroute, a responding unit confirmed a visible smoke header in the area.

At the time of the dispatch, several mutual aid departments were already committed to a separate structure fire in Platea. Due to the ongoing incident, Fairview Lake Shore's Engine 502, along with tankers from Fairview Lake Shore and Franklin Township, were added to the response as they were available to assist. Additionally, command at the Platea fire released Springfield's Engine 642 from that incident, allowing the crew to respond to the reported structure fire within their primary response area.

Springfield's Engine 644 arrived on scene and reported a vehicle fire behind a single-story residence, with a portion of the surrounding wooded area also involved in fire. Chief 640 assumed command of the incident.

At the fire scene, firefighters quickly deployed a handline from Engine 644 and began suppression efforts on the burning vehicle and surrounding wooded area. Crews were able to bring the fire under control relatively quickly, preventing further extension into the surrounding area.

After confirming that the residence itself was not involved, Chief 640 reduced the response, holding apparatus from Springfield, Girard, Lake City, and Fairview Lake Shore's tanker. All other responding units were released and placed back in service.

With both fire scenes still active and multiple apparatus committed, Fairview Lake Shore's Engine 502 was reassigned to stand by at Lake City Fire Company's Station 57 to provide additional coverage for the surrounding district.

Mutual aid departments dispatched to assist Springfield included Lake City Fire Company, A.F. Dobler Hose & Ladder Co., Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department, and West County 110. In addition, Fairview Lake Shore responded with Engine 502 and Tanker 525, while Franklin Township also provided a tanker.

No additional information regarding the cause or circumstances of the fire is currently available.

PLATEA, PA - Structure Fire - Yesterday, shortly before 2 PM, firefighters from Platea Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to a reported garage fire in the vicinity of 10170 West Peach Street.

Chief 580 arrived on scene within minutes of the initial dispatch and reported a heavily involved garage fire before assuming command. Platea’s Tanker 595 and Engine 592 responded to the scene, along with multiple mutual aid departments.

Upon arrival, firefighters quickly initiated suppression efforts, deploying handlines from Tanker 595. Crews were able to make a rapid knockdown of the fire, bringing it under control approximately 16 minutes after the initial dispatch.

With the fire under control, Chief 580 instructed responding apparatus that had not yet arrived to stand by. Girard was directed to provide standby coverage at Station 58, while Springfield’s Engine 642 was instructed to stage at Sun Lake for potential water supply operations.

While crews continued operating at the scene, a separate structure fire was reported elsewhere in the western Erie County area. With the garage fire already under control, Chief 580 began releasing apparatus from the scene to make resources available for the additional incident.

Mutual aid assistance included Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department, Springfield Vol. Fire Dept., Lake City Fire Company, A.F. Dobler Hose & Ladder Co., Fairview Lake Shore, Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Dept. - Erie County, PA, and West County 112. Girard also provided standby coverage during the incident.

GIRARD TOWNSHIP, PA - Motor Vehicle Accident - This afternoon at approximately 3:00 PM, Platea Volunteer Fire Company, Springfield Vol. Fire Dept., West County Paramedic Association, and Millcreek Paramedics were dispatched to a reported tractor-trailer rollover near mile marker 13 westbound. Due to the nature of the call, STAT MedEvac 12 was placed on standby. Responding units were advised that the medical helicopter would have an estimated 27-minute response time if needed.

While Engine 592 was enroute, the Erie County Department of Public Safety reported that a westbound tractor-trailer had crossed the median and traveled across all lanes of traffic and had overturned in the accident. The truck’s cargo was initially unknown, and boxes were reportedly scattered across the roadway. Engine 642 responded shortly afterward.

Responders were later advised that the truck had come to rest off the roadway near the eastbound lanes at mile marker 13. Pennsylvania State Police were already on scene, and the driver had exited the vehicle without assistance. A small diesel fuel spill was also reported.

Engine 592 and Utility 599 arrived a short time later. Engine 592 subsequently placed Springfield back in service after responders determined that a second rescue unit was not needed. STAT MedEvac was also canceled.

MP18 later arrived and transported one person to a nearby hospital. The eastbound lanes were restricted to one lane, while the westbound lanes remained unaffected.

Platea cleared the scene at approximately 5:22 PM, turning it over to Pennsylvania State Police and the towing company. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection were also reportedly on scene.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA - Motor Vehicle Accident - Last evening at approximately 7:15 PM, Springfield Vol. Fire Dept., A.F. Dobler Hose & Ladder Co. (Girard), and West County Paramedic units 110, 112, and 116 were dispatched to a reported multi-vehicle crash with rollover along Interstate 90 westbound near the 4-mile marker.

Initial reports indicated that two school buses and two passenger vehicles were involved. Due to the reported mechanism and potential severity of the crash, STAT MedEvac was placed on standby.

As units responded, the Erie County Department of Public Safety advised that multiple callers were reporting the crash. Pennsylvania State Police arrived shortly afterward and confirmed that the school buses were unoccupied, with possible entrapment reported in one of the passenger vehicles.

West County 112 arrived on scene and relayed PSP’s report while confirming heavy vehicle damage. EMS personnel quickly began triaging the patients and establishing an accurate patient count. West County 110 arrived shortly afterward. Engines 642 and 644 also arrived and began assessing the scene while assisting with patient access and packaging.

Fire police and Pennsylvania State Police restricted westbound traffic to one lane while emergency personnel worked at the scene.

Girard’s 544 responded as an additional rescue engine, as requested on the initial dispatch. Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department also responded with an additional ambulance, along with Engine 604, to assist. Once all patients had been removed from the vehicles and it was determined that no additional rescue apparatus was needed, Girard’s 544 and Cranesville’s 604 were placed back in service prior to arriving on scene.

West County 112 and Cranesville 607 transported a total of two patients to nearby hospitals. Vehicle recovery technicians from Eagle Towing were requested to the scene to remove the involved vehicles. Crews remained on scene for an extended period while Pennsylvania State Police investigated the crash and Eagle Towing worked to recover and remove the vehicles from the interstate.

MCKEAN TOWNSHIP, PA - Commercial Structure Fire - This morning at 10:54 AM, the Mckean Hose Company was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of 8530 Skinner Road in McKean Township. Erie County 911 advised responding units that the caller reported a greenhouse on fire at a farm.

Chief 400 responded shortly after the initial dispatch. Engines 383 and 405 followed moments later. While en route, Engine 405 reported seeing a smoke header from the borough, and Chief 400 subsequently reported a visible header near Bargain Road and Interstate 90. Engine 602 also responded to the scene as the rapid intervention team.

As units continued toward the scene, the caller reported that two greenhouses were on fire with flames threatening a third. Based on the potential fire load and the fact that no units had yet arrived to assess the conditions, Chief 400 requested a second alarm. The upgrade brought additional engines and tankers from Perry Hi-Way, Franklin Township, and Edinboro, along with Kuhl Hose Company for firefighter rehabilitation, if needed.

At 11:06 AM, 12 minutes after the initial dispatch, Chief 400 reported that two hose lines had been deployed and crews were actively extinguishing the fire. He requested that Tanker 432, the next-due apparatus, supply Engine 405 with water.

One minute later, Chief 400 reported that crews had achieved a good knock on the fire and directed all apparatus not already responding to remain on standby. He later requested that units from Edinboro and Perry Hi-Way, along with Millcreek’s Engine 924, continue to the scene. All other responding units were returned to service.

Chief 400 reported the fire completely extinguished at 11:20 AM, and crews were actively performing overhaul operations. No injuries were reported.

Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department, Perry Hi-Way Hose Company, Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department, Fairview Lake Shore Fire Department and the West Ridge Fire Department were among the departments initially dispatched to assist McKean.

GIRARD TOWNSHIP, PA - Motor Vehicle Accident - This afternoon at around 12:30 PM, the Platea Volunteer Fire Company, Springfield Vol. Fire Dept., and West County Paramedic Association were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle accident with rollover along Interstate 90 eastbound near the 11.5-mile marker.

Due to the reported nature and mechanism of the accident, STAT MedEvac was placed on standby. West County 110 went enroute shortly after dispatch and was advised that STAT MedEvac had an approximately 12-minute estimated time of arrival if needed, pending weather conditions. Erie County Department of Public Safety also advised responding crews that an individual may have been pinned in the vehicle.

West County 110 arrived shortly after and reported a pickup truck and camper on their roofs in the median of Interstate 90. Springfield’s Engine 642 went enroute shortly afterward, followed by Platea’s Engine 592.

Following an initial assessment of the scene, West County 110 advised that STAT MedEvac could stand down. Crews confirmed there was no entrapment and that the occupants had been extricated from the vehicles. The eastbound passing lane was closed in the area of the accident, with traffic diverted into the driving lane around the scene.

West County 110 transported two individuals to a nearby hospital. Engine 592 and Engine 642 later cleared the scene and returned to service.

Pennsylvania State Police were on scene investigating the accident. No further details are currently available.

CONNEAUT, OH - Water Rescue - This morning at approximately 11:00 AM, crews from Conneaut Fire and Rescue, Saybrook Water Rescue, Ashtabula City Fire, Lake City Fire Company, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the U.S. Coast Guard were dispatched for a reported capsized boat approximately 10 miles offshore from Conneaut Harbor, near the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line.

Initially, two individuals were reportedly rescued by a Good Samaritan fishing boat that was in the vicinity. The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene, followed by additional local agencies. The Conneaut Police boat and Lake City Fire Company’s Boat 578 responded toward coordinates that had been relayed to rescue crews.

As crews arrived in the general vicinity, they requested that the Coast Guard fire a flare to help guide responding boats to the location of the overturned vessel. Once on scene, crews confirmed that two individuals had been rescued by the Good Samaritan vessel, while one individual remained missing.

Divers from Conneaut entered the water and searched the hull and surrounding area of the overturned boat. A rescue swimmer from Lake City assisted Conneaut divers with operations in the water. The vessel was thoroughly searched, but no additional victims were located.

Search operations then expanded into the surrounding waters. The Coast Guard began conducting grid searches while local agencies assisted with the search. The two survivors were transported back to shore, where they were transferred to awaiting emergency medical services personnel.

Search efforts for the remaining missing individual continued for an extended period. Eventually, local crews returned to the Conneaut Public Dock, where all rescue personnel were accounted for. The U.S. Coast Guard continued search operations using water-based assets as well as a Coast Guard helicopter.
