This fall marks 5 YEARS working with Erica at EK Jewelers.

I knew nothing about jewelry back then, and absolutely nothing about taking macro photos of jewelry.

It has been such a fun piece of life to grow and learn and find JOY in delving into the uncharted territory of macro photography and product photography with my friend Erica by my side!

I now know a little more about jewelry and A LOT more about what it takes to get a great jewelry shot!

We have produced THOUSANDS of images from model shoots for catalogs, magazines, websites and multiple billboards!

Looking back over the last 5 years of memories with EK Jewelers is a pleasant reminder to always surround yourself with people who challenge you to grow, give grace, and motivate you to become better each day—AND have fun while doing it.

Thank you, Erica Kay, for taking a chance on this whirlwind of an ever-growing, ever-learning photographer.

I have been truly blessed by you! ♥️

This Labor Day, I want to recognize our incredible EK Jewelers team! ❤️

Thank you for your hard work, your dedication, and the genuine love you bring to the store each day. You make every person feel welcome and help them find a piece they’ll love. I’m so grateful for each of you!

Happy Labor Day from all of us at EK Jewelers! 🇺🇸

There is usually a specific moment during your session that I have an overwhelming sense of revelation.

Before that point, we are having fun taking photos, and then all of a sudden, it clicks, and I see this beautiful image that looks like a tapestry of woven pieces comprised of all the parts that make you who you are.

It’s an opening to allow me to create and express -visually-who you are on the -inside- through an image.

And I suddenly think, “There you are, I’ve been looking for you.”

I received this message from Ava’s mom after she received her daughter’s senior proof gallery.

“Danielle, I’m not sure where to even start.

I honestly had no idea how senior pictures would be. Yet, you managed to capture every wonderful aspect of my daughter.

The pictures you have taken are beyond outstanding and I have ugly cried over an hour pouring through them, thank you so much for the absolute timeless memories.”

-Haley Brown

THIS is why I do what I do.

To be able to invoke deep, real feelings from my images is such an honor. I don’t take your choice in choosing me to do this lightly.

I am blessed each and every day that I get the opportunity to be a creative artist.

Thank you for choosing me. ♥️

My fall outdoor dates are below, I do have several openings still!

Family sessions look and feel different than seniors because the goal is to capture your relationship and season of life together.

They are easy going and fun! There is a lot of movement, play, and prompts/poses to bring your children’s personalities to the surface, and I am excited to shift into family session season!

If you are looking for a fall family photoshoot, I would love to be your photographer of choice!

Past clients: If you have booked with me in the past, and want to book again, but are looking for a new vibe or “look” I would be excited to do something new and different with you! I’m open to all your ideas!

Do you know what all of these photos have in common?

Every single one of these images were taken in Gillette, Wyoming at Camplex Park. None are AI.

One of the most important aspects of my job as your photographer is to be the catalyst that will take your photo, a simple image, and make it a portrait.

It’s my job as an artist to use my knowledge of posing, lighting, composition, color, and movement, to take what’s in front of my eyes (you) and literally create the look and feeling that I am seeing, so that it clearly translates to the viewer.

I almost exclusively do this IN camera—by use of the many individual camera settings, and body placement (both mine and yours), to make the perfect base composition. Then I build from there.

What I am getting at is this—my photos are taken in many of the same places as everyone else in Gillette.

So why do they look different?

The difference is:
my skill set with my camera
my artistic knowledge base (drawing, painting)
my editing skill set
my understanding of composition and posing

NONE OF THESE PHOTOS ARE AI! They are 100% real.

I have seen this come up with several high level artists online. Questioning if their work is all AI.

(I plan to make a separate post about this)

The reason I can make them look so polished and high end is because I have built the skills to get these results as close to perfect as possible IN camera before they even get to the computer.

I’m not just clicking, hoping for the best, and then slapping a grainy, desaturated filter on it to hide out-of-focus photos and calling it art.

I’m also not clicking, taking a subpar photo, running it through generative AI and claiming the photo is all made by me.

Yes, I DO frequently use AI to help fix things or enhance things.

But I don’t think me using AI means what you think it means.

AI is a tool to help get work done faster and more efficiently.

Yes, I have taken a photo and completely transformed the background to something new using AI. I LOVE experimenting and playing with photos. I love seeing what AI is capable of. (and laughably, what it isn’t)

In reality, 99% of the time I use AI to quickly remove signs, add a tree branch on the left where there was a gaping hole in the image, or even adding a beautiful sunset on an overcast sky when the client REALLY wanted golden images, but couldn’t reschedule on a rainy day.

Every image that I use AI on is ONLY used for the purpose of elevating the subject of the image—YOU.

YOU are the focus of the photo.

YOU are real.

In my photos, YOU are the sun, the moon, and all of the stars. ✨

And MY job is to make every aspect of an image point to the gorgeous, beautiful, one of a kind—You.

My promise is this—that I will use every tool, skill, and experience that I possess, to provide you with a photographic masterpiece.

Every time, for every image. ♥️

Indie Capri. My daughter.

If you have followed me for a while, you know of my passion for capturing the raw emotions that are underneath the surface, revealing glimpses into my subjects spirit and character, or their relationships with one another.

Most of the time photos are normal captures of a person (or group) for whatever purpose they are booking me for.

(Which I DO enjoy too—not every photo is meant to be a reflective emotional masterpiece)..I know, sigh.

But sometimes I do get a glimpse into the deep well of a person below the surface.

Often, unexpectedly.

There are many things I have seen.

Sometimes I see confidence.
Sometimes I see joy.
Sometimes I see insecurity.
Sometimes I see doubt.
Sometimes I see peace.
Sometimes I see pride.
Sometimes I see anger.
Sometimes I see fear.
Sometimes I see hope.
Sometimes I see drive.
Sometimes I see authority.
Sometimes I see openness.

Sometimes I see your love for each other—your laughter, teasing, encouraging, playfulness, closeness, comfort, protectiveness, support, and adoration for one another.

And like my fierce Indie here—

Sometimes I see determination.
Sometimes I see grit.
Sometimes I see a fire not easily contained.
Sometimes I see strength.
Sometimes I see rare beauty.
Sometimes I see ambition.
Sometimes I see passion.
Sometimes I see a tender heart.
Sometimes I see a leader.

Sometimes I see limitless possibilities.

Sometimes I see you, Indie Capri.

My beautiful daughter.

Oh, how I love to see you. ♥️

🍂 Fall Family Session Tips 🍂

One of the questions I get asked the most is, “What should we wear?” and “What if my kids are wild or (the opposite) shy?”

Here are some of my biggest tips for a beautiful, stress-free session!

-Outfit Tips-

• Start with one outfit you absolutely love, then build everyone else’s around it.

• Choose coordinating colors, not matching outfits. Think warm earth tones, creams, rust, olive, navy, mustard, burgundy, soft browns, and muted greens.

• Mix textures like knits, denim, corduroy, lace, or linen to add depth and interest.

• Avoid large logos, busy graphics, and neon colors that can distract from your family’s connection.

• Layers, hats, jackets, photograph beautifully and give your gallery variety.

• Lastly, wear something that makes you feel beautiful and confident. This allows you to hold yourself better, and be more present during your session.

To consider:

•Props *Not necessary, but adds interest/movement* Feel free to bring something to “do” or heirloom family items, hot cocoa, blankets/quilts, beloved stuffed animals.

🤍 Preparing Your Kids

• Tell them you’re going on a fun family adventure—Show them photos on the wall and say that’s what we are going to do! I love to show them my camera and get them involved.

• Avoid telling them to “hold still” or “Stop!” I know kids have a short window, if they can’t stay still, I will move with them, I have skills to bring out genuine smiles.

• Make sure everyone is rested and has eaten beforehand. Shooting hungry is fun for no one. 😂

• Let them be themselves. The sweetest images often happen during cuddles, giggles, exploring, and genuine moments—not perfect poses.

📸 The Secret to Amazing Photos?

Just capturing your family exactly as they are in the moment.

Yes, the photos of everyone smiling are excellent—and even what we hope for, but the memories of your true relationship will be held and resurface in the photographs that come from connection, laughter, hugs, and the little in-between moments that tell your family’s story.

That’s what I love to capture.

You.

Exactly as you are.

Outdoor Fall Sessions are now open for booking. 🎉

I get a lot of questions on the best location for fall photos. Did you know that ALL of these photos are taken right here in Gillette?

It’s my job to ensure your photos have the look and feeling you are wanting, and I have several spots in town that have a gorgeous fall look to them.

Not only that, I have spent years perfecting my editing skillset, which allows me to create art-like portraits without needing to travel hours away or waste your precious time.

Your session can be in town, quick, easy—I will take care of the rest.

A fast session proves you are being taken care of by someone who is highly efficient at what they do.

You don’t need to worry that the images might be blurry or the poses unflattering because the session was fast and stress free.

You can trust that I will provide sharp, high quality images, with the best posing—to accent your best features and family dynamic.

This is, and always *should be* the easy part for you.

And it’s just the foundation of the work on my end. 🥰

The editing and artistry are my bread and butter. I love creating beautiful art-like portraits from your photos. It doesn’t matter the location, YOU are the feature-the background is just an enhancing detail of your image, and I love molding it to perfection.

What I am meaning is, the location matters less than the artist who is creating the image.

A great artist can make something beautiful from nothing, and a lacking one can have the perfect setting and still fall short due to inexperience.

This is true for any art form.

If you value expertise and vibrant artistic portraits, I would love to work with you!

On my booking site—weekdays are open for instant booking, if you would like a weekend, message me, and I will check my availability.

If you need a specific date, book soon so I can accommodate you.

I will attach the booking link in the comments, or find it in my IG bio.

I am looking forward to the 2026 Fall season! 🍁

You guys know that rainstorm that hit last night? With the wind and lightning? Well, we were IN IT at Bell Nob! 🤣

I have got to say.

I was not anticipating Jerzi to swing as fast as lightning, literally could hardly keep up with her. 💪🏼 It’s a good thing I practiced shooting lightning bolts for 2 hours straight in June during that big storm, it prepped me for keeping up with her! 🤣🎉

Yep, it took Jerzi’s mom calling us off saying “Um, I don’t want to get hit by that lightning I think we need to head back!”

The most WILD golf cart ride, fast and furious trip, while holding my huge UMBRELLA flash out the side of the cart while the rain poured and the wind blew, it was nuts.

Thankfully, Jerzi also knows how to drive a golf cart at what felt like 40mph. 🤣

Cheers to new adventures! I’ll never forget this one. ⛈️

Ever wondered what it would look like to have a giant thunderstorm in Spearfish Canyon, and then as soon as the rain stops, you run out of your car and start taking photographs?

Well if you have, here it is.

Lainah’s senior session started at the end of an incredible rain storm, we didn’t even know if we would have long to shoot, but it created the most beautiful hazy light, the raindrops covering everything made it feel like we had stepped into a rain forest.

The entire canyon was mostly empty because it had just poured rain for 30 minutes, so it felt like walking through a secret garden.

What a beautiful, unexpected experience, that we could never recreate. 🌧️ 🍃

The 2027 Seniors are absolutely crushing it this season and I am thrilled to be the photographer for those who have asked me! I cannot wait for the rest! 🎉
