He did not have to hit her to make her body scared of the front door.

Sometimes it was the tone. The silence. The way his mood filled the room before he even put his keys down.

He avoided his own mess, then handed it to her like it was her job to carry. His anger became her anxiety. His insecurity became her trial. His lack of loyalty became something she had to prove she deserved.

And when she finally reacted, he acted confused.
