Family photos don’t have to feel stiff, stressful, or perfectly coordinated to be beautiful. Usually my favorite sessions happen when you stop worrying so much about getting the “perfect photo” and start loving on the people standing in front of you.

Let the kids be silly. Hold hands. Pick them up. Kiss your spouse. Laugh. Move. Snuggle. Let this season look exactly like the season you’re actually living.

Because someday, the things that feel ordinary right now are going to be the things you wish you could go back and feel one more time.

That’s what I want your photos to hold.

There is so much attention on the new baby, and I get that.

But somewhere in those first few weeks and maybe months, mothers are going through a lot.

Bodies healing. Hormones shifting. She’s learning a brand new version of herself while caring for someone who needs her around the clock.

So take the pictures of the baby. Celebrate the baby. Love on the baby.

But please check on the mama, too.

Bring her coffee. Let her cry. Tell her she’s doing a good job. Ask how she is, and stay long enough to hear the real answer.

Motherhood can be beautiful and incredibly tender at the exact same time.
