Every reception looks a little different, but Cherrie & Charles’ intimate afterparty was something special.

Following their courthouse wedding at the Indiana Statehouse, we snapped some “just married” portraits of these two around the space: chasing morning sunlight through the windows and toasting to their next chapter; even sharing a private cake cutting just the two of them. The greenery and natural environment made it feel like we traveled somewhere close to their homeland 🌺🎍🇵🇭

Their 9 guests joined them after to celebrate the newly weds and quickly filled the atmosphere with overflowing joy for them. Their celebration was completely organic, real, and deeply felt by all. Sometimes smaller in size means, bigger in heart. This day attested to that.

I think one of the greatest misconceptions about photography is that authentic photographs are found.

They aren't.

They're built. They're built through conversations before anyone steps in front of my camera.�Through asking questions clients don't know to ask themselves. Through choosing locations that support a feeling instead of simply “looking pretty”. Through trusting instinct when something feels almost right instead of exactly right.

This session reminded me of that. Makayla wanted gardens and old English novels. Those ideas became the compass for every decision we made shooting at Allerton Park. Like rescheduling our date around thunderstorms and festivals to photograph inside the mansion itself.

That day, the estate felt like it belonged to them, and the gardens were their playground. By the end of the evening, it wasn't because we'd recreated a modern day Jane Austen. 🥀🪷🏛️
It was because we'd created something that belonged only to them.

Nikki & Erik’s celebration held a special aura. We followed Nikki from their neighborhood home in the city to the Cafe where she met her love for silent moments before the ceremony. Sunlight drifting through the windows illuminated the bride waiting among the stairwell. Their ceremony was held in the honeycomb and felt nothing but joyous with anticipation from all their loved ones.

And those windows from earlier continued to shine golden light into the reception space for a magical evening to be held by all. A welcome worthy of your favorite celeb, speeches that made even me cry, and dessert to make your mouth water. This day left its mark on many happy hearts 🤎
