We received in the mail and very nicely printed and eye-catching card from Georgetown County regarding the upcoming local option sales tax.

Upon reading it, one would come to believe that our lives are going to vastly improve should we vote yes. And the good part about it, 40% will be paid by visitors to our area.

So that means 60% will be paid by county residents. You and me!

What it also failed to tell you that should the local option sales tax pass, a turning lane on Black River Road in Georgetown in front of the hospital would be constructed.

AND 12-15 LIVE OAK TREES WOULD BE CUT AND REMOVED FOR THIS TURNING LANE.

For the many people who travel this road, I think most would agree that the congestion is not in front of or around the hospital but at the intersection of Black River Road and Highway 17.

Georgetown county is growing by leaps and bounds and we’re losing our quaintness. Developers will even tell you that the beauty of trees is what attracts people to an area. And once they’re gone, we won’t see them again in our lifetime.

Folks who know me will tell you I’m no bleeding heart, tree hugging liberal but when it comes to maintaining Georgetown’s beauty and charm, I stand front and proud.

For the past 25 years or so, we have been honored to photograph retiring judges from Horry and Georgetown Counties. This past Friday, the unveiling ceremony for Judge Tommy Abbot was held in Conway and Susan and I were there for the presentation. We appreciate the Horry and Georgetown Bar for choosing us to photograph the judges and providing the portraits for display in the two court house complexes.

Back in 1993-94, a young mother by the name of Linda brought her two sons, Patrick and Nicholas to have their photographs made. She had bought them matching white outfits and the boys were easy to photograph. She treasured the images we captured and ordered a wall portrait for display in her living room.
Over the years, the family moved several times and unfortunately her favorite wall portrait of the boys was damaged. Knowing how much she loved this photograph, Nicholas surprised her with a new one for Mother's Day. She was thrilled, cried and overjoyed with emotion to have this "new" photograph of her boys when they were young.
We were honored to have photographed this family and to once again help bring joy many years later to this lady.
Family photographs have a way of doing just that.......................
