Tiffany came in for her 40 Over 40 experience, and her mom joined her for support. As we were chatting during the session, I suggested that she try on something from the client closet and step in front of the camera for a few photos with her daughter.

And voilà! Beautiful mother-daughter portraits 💛

Many people have asked how I do my self-portraits, so here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at the chaos. 😂

1. Set up the tripod, camera, backdrop, and lighting.

2. Turn on to automatic shooting, I do 15.

3. You need a “model” with eyes to focus on. 🤣 This time my assistant was Minnie Mouse… a little nod to my very first Disney trip coming soon!

4. Focus the camera on Minnie and press the shutter.

6. Run for your life!

7. Throw the whole setup to one side and take the spot. Of course, by this point I’ve already missed at least two of the shots. 😂

8. Start posing like crazy. No mirror, no plan, no one telling me what to do.

9. Sweat, repeat, and take way more photos than you think you’ll need.

10. Get frustrated with the many bad ones, wonder if I really need these photos, the answer is yes so, keep going.

The whole thing on repeat for a second outfit!

This is my process, if any photographer friend has a way to do it without the sweat, please let me know! 😊

48 years living this life 💛

One of my favorite yearly traditions is doing a birthday self-portrait session. This year came with a few technical difficulties (because apparently the photography gods wanted to keep me humble 😂), but I still had a lot of fun!

Sometimes I want to put on the heels, do my hair, and create something elegant and polished. Other times, I want to be barefoot, feel the ground, and capture something a little more real, candid, and imperfect. Both versions are me.

Being both the photographer and the subject takes work, patience, and a lot of running back and forth. I’ll share some behind-the-scenes later so you can see what that actually looks like

For now, I’m going to get ready to go eat like a psycho, get spoiled by my family, and enjoy this new year of life.
