As someone who spent hours in the darkroom, developing film and making prints, I always loved my contact sheets. There was an understated compositional value out of the grid and progression. So, I loved reading this article and seeing the BTS detail on some of the most iconic photos of modern life from The New York Times

A rare glimpse inside the archive of The New York Times showcases the decisions and hesitations that go into pressing the shutter.

I shot some photos (as well as did my son) a few years back on the 4th of July and they just had to be edited. I struggle with coming back to the editing of great shoots or moments I had the chance to be witness to. It's not that I don't want to edit but that I don't make the time and then the inspiration gets buried. I'm trying to do more to honor the moments I've had the chance to photo.

In that spirit and with the recent holiday, here's a gallery of images that we shot and I edited.

Heading out towards the Little Big Econ State Forest area last weekend I caught a stop you in your tracks/car sunrise. That same Sun would later light up the woods.

Sometimes you just have to do what you keep trying not to do. In this case, it’s saturated, grainy edits of a local mall which, despite the owners best attempts, gets more and more liminal (to my delight). Enjoy.

I’ve been exploring and enjoying the unique Florida trail experience lately. Running trails in the Florida summer presents a beauty missed by most (along with a little pain). It is quite worth it though!

Here’s the (almost) complete collection of images I submitted for the community challenge “Nighttime Moments”. I really had fun with these and the appreciation of the community has been a shot in the arm. If you want to see even more, you can find my VSCO profile in my bio link.

I can’t state enough how important challenge is in the life and work of anyone. Without it, the impulse to create, to do new things, to get better, so easily gets eaten up by the impulse to do almost anything else.

After coming SO close to totally abandoning as a platform based on the many recent decisions to strip away basic editing tools and put them behind a paywall, I took a few moments to peer into the community side of the platform and was again reminded of what I do like so much: challenges.

I need a challenge to awaken dormant creativity and the recent Nighttime Moments community challenge has been so rewarding. This gave me a canvas to simply share quite a bit of recent (and many years old) photos with a new audience and seeing the engagement by the community of peers, has been a shot in the arm.

These are from the incredible large scale art installation at the St Petersburg Pier from my hometown. Janet Echelman created the “Bending Arc” and it is captivating in every light of day and night.

I unequivocally love the morning. I'll go to bed earlier in order to have more morning time. I score my mornings with this playlist, A.M. and have been working on it for the last year. I hope you enjoy it. And if you're a night-owl, this playlist works pretty well too.

Yuge Zhou's work is a thing of joy and beauty; whimsy and play. I love the video relief installations. Her "Underground Circuit" piece calls to memory some of the wide angle scenes in Jacques Tati's "Playtime".
