Nora slept so hard after so many new experiences!!

What is early socialization? Contrary to popular belief, socialization is NOT about being social. It’s about exposure to novel stimuli to build confidence, emotional resilience, and in my opinion, social neutrality.

You’ll notice in this video that Nora only meets one new person and no new dogs. This is by design — I do not want her to grow up expecting interaction with every person and dog she meets. I want her to be able to respectfully greet new people (and new dogs once she is fully vaccinated), but I want the default to be ignoring them.

While Nora is still in her critical socialization period, I’ll be talking a lot about this subject! Follow along if you’re interested 😊

And of course a disclaimer: People have different risk tolerances and have different opinions. I have done research, talked to trainers, breeders, and veterinary professionals. I am not personally a trainer, breeder, or vet professional. Therefore, this is my layperson opinion only and is not a recommendation on how to raise YOUR puppy.

Early socialization is so much fun 🥹

We did a session with The Spotted Tongue Photography a couple weeks ago and Michelle’s photo of Nora made it into the Embark Top 10! Thank you Michelle for such a beautiful photo of my baby!!

The 2nd challenge in the Unleashed Education's Embark challenge was "Get down." The goal of this one was to get as low as possible, get those photos from their viewpoint.

Anyone who knows my FastCAT photography or has worked with me for portraits knows I am generally flat out on my belly shooting as low as I can get (and most people know I love "action portraits"!. For this one, I was shooting with the camera almost in the grass (I had to raise it up a bit because the puppy was so small!) and using the screen to be able to set up the shot.

This adorable Beagle puppy was so perfect with her giant flying ears as she ran straight at me.

My photo made the top 10 and I couldn't be more thrilled!
