This old barn is not far from my house. I’ve shot it 100 times, in 100 different ways, and in 100 different conditions. It has been such a great exercise for me for developing my eye for composition, coming up with unique images every time.

Some places are so beautiful that it is almost hard to take a bad photograph. The red rocks of Sedona, Arizona definitely fit that description. Sedona was designated an international dark sky community and has strict codes on lighting to reduce light pollution. I wish more cities would adopt these policies to preserve the night sky for human viewing as well as the wildlife that depends on it

A fiery sunset from Yankee Hill, California. This was my home for many years and I miss the beautiful scenes like this endless field of lupine flowers stretching as far as your eye can see

I hit the backroads Tuesday and Wednesday evenings to catch a glimpse of the full Beaver super moon with my new telephoto lens. It was challenging to find foreground objects that lined up with the moon, as it is a complete different thought process than shooting with a wide angle lens. I am excited for the different types of images I will be able to capture with such a long zoom lens!

Glacier National Park has some of the most stunning views I’ve ever witnessed! I knew I wanted to capture this view from the extensive location scouting I did online before my trip. I had really hoped for the flowers to be in full bloom but unfortunately I was a week or so too soon.

On my recent trip out west, I was only able to spend one day in Yellowstone National Park so I had to make every minute count. I stopped at the Grand Prismatic Spring around sunset and noticed how it reflected the sky like a mirror and knew i wanted to wait for dark and photograph the stars here. Another photographer or two came and went but I had the place to myself for the most part of the night. The night sky was incredibly dark and I captured some colorful airglow making it a very memorable experience.

My first hike in the Grand Teton I decided to catch the sunset at Heron Pond. I was a little nervous hiking alone in grizzly bear country but everywhere I went there were many people on the trails so I felt like I would be safe. But when I pulled up to the trailhead, I was the only car in the parking lot. I decided to continue my journey and hiked over an hour through the woods without seeing another person. I finally reached Heron Pond and the views were fantastic! I was hoping for a more colorful sunset but all in all the trip was well worth the effort!

On my first morning in the Grand Teton I caught this picturesque sunrise and learned a valuable lesson. I woke up at 4:30am so that I could arrive at Schwabacher Landing over an hour before sunrise. Upon arriving, I saw a string of vehicles on a dirt road that was so long it looked like an entrance to a festival. I finally found a parking spot and scrambled down to the waters edge and got in line with the many other photographers. The rest my trip I made sure that I was plenty early so I could have my pick of compositions and wasn’t limited to what was left over by the time I got there.
