The first celebration of the U.S. Flag birthday was held in 1877 on the 100th anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777.

However, it is believed that the first annual recognition of the flag's birthday dates back to 1885 when school teacher, B.J. Cigrand, first organized a group of Wisconsin school children to observe June 14 -- the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those lost today at the Wings Over Dallas Airshow in Dallas, TX. This afternoon, two aircraft were involved in a mid-air collision. The aircraft were a P-63 Kingcobra and a B-17 Texas Raiders. Both aircraft belonged to the Commemorative Air Force (CAF). Seven lives were lost.

What we do in the warbird community to keep history alive to inspire others is real. Our work has significant implications. We hope it comes as some consolation to the families that those lost today were pursuing their life’s passion to benefit others. May they Rest In Peace.
