This year’s time out in Wyoming turned out to be incredible for grizzly sightings. Last year I searched constantly and only managed to spot two bears, both of them far off in the distance. This year was completely different. I saw more than ten grizzlies, and several of them were close enough to my car for me to capture a handful of strong photos.
Locals and wildlife management identified this particular bear as Grizzly 610 traveling with her two cubs. She is a descendant of the well known Grizzly 399, a bear that many people followed for years and that became a symbol of the Tetons. Grizzly 399 was struck and killed by a car in 2024, and seeing 610 with her cubs felt like a reminder that her lineage continues to thrive in the region.
