One of the things I love most about this project is hearing the stories behind why women join.
This one stayed with me.

She told me she started a new career later in life. Went back to school. Chased something she wanted.

At the same time… life surprised her with a baby when she thought that chapter was already written.

And she said something I think so many women quietly carry:
“I feel like I’m at one of the best points in my life achievement-wise… but physically I don’t feel like I’m at my best.”

Can I tell you something?
You do not have to earn being celebrated.
You do not have to wait until your body changes.
Or life slows down.
Or you feel more like the version of yourself you think should exist.

You are allowed to be proud of yourself and still feel uncomfortable in your skin.

You are allowed to celebrate growth while still being in process.
That doesn’t make this season less worthy of being seen.

And maybe that’s exactly why you should be in the photos.

If something in this feels familiar… if you’ve been thinking about doing a shoot but keep telling yourself “maybe later”…

This is your invitation.
Book the session.
Let yourself be taken care of.

Create something your future self will be so grateful exists.

My 40 Project and portrait experiences were built for women exactly like you. COMMENT 40 and I’ll send you the details for the 40 Project 🤍

I’ve always seen women differently.

Even as a little girl, I remember studying the women in my life…
noticing the things they didn’t always love about themselves.

My mom once told me I used to ask when I would get my “elevens.”
Those little lines between your brows.
I couldn’t wait for them.

I would watch my grandma take down her hair…
long strands of silver and white… and think it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

I didn’t see flaws.
I saw depth.
Life.
Power.

Somewhere along the way, we’re taught to see those things differently.
To hide them. Fix them. Be less.

But I never unlearned how I saw you.
And now… I get to show you.

That’s what photography became for me.

Not just taking pictures… but holding up a mirror and saying this is who you are, this is what everyone else sees, this is your power.

And if you’ve been feeling the shift lately…
like you’re becoming someone new, or finally ready to see yourself differently…

May is a special month for me and is going to be all about "Celebrating Her.”

And I have a few really special things planned.
If you want first access (and a few things I won’t be sharing publicly)…⬇️ COMMENT "ME" to get on the list

March felt like a whirlwind in the best way.

I started the month in Las Vegas speaking at WPPI, teaching photographers how to build successful businesses no matter where they live… and wow, that was a full circle moment for me.

Before photography, I was teaching fine art and public speaking at two universities. I remember staying after class with students, talking about how badly I wanted to be a full time photographer.

To now be back in education, helping other photographers do exactly that… it just means so much.

I also got to see one of my biggest inspirations, Annie Leibovitz, speak about her portraits… from the front row no less. That’s one of those moments I know will stick with me for a long time.

This month also reminded me on a deeper level how important community is. The people in my corner? I don’t take that for granted for a second.

Right after Vegas, we drove to Indiana for a family friends wedding which was a little chaotic travel-wise but so worth it to be together.

In the studio, I got to create with some incredible women. Branding, headshots, families, and more beautiful sessions for the 40 Over 40 project.

I also started launching my mastermind and course for photographers and creatives (which has been equal parts exciting and stretching).

And at home, real life is full in the best way. Garden season is here, potatoes are in, tomatoes are started. Soccer season x2, plus track and travel ball. I ended the month with a quick trip to Texas with family for a little spring break adventure - It’s a lot… and I love it.

I’m really just feeling grateful.

For this life, for this work, and for you being here in my little corner of the internet 🤍

Behind the scenes from a recent senior photoshoot. Which one is your favorite?
I know I don't say this enough but I do really enjoy photographing seniors and guys. Even and maybe especially the reluctant ones, they give the best stoic looks - like this guy, he did such a great job. Thanks mom, for dragging, I mean, bringing him in!

I’m still processing this week.

I had the opportunity to speak at one of the biggest photography conferences in the industry about building a successful photography business in a small town.

Last year I won the speaking competition there.

This year I was on stage teaching.

That alone already feels surreal.

But what I keep thinking about most isn’t the stage.

It’s the people.

This industry has given me something I never expected when I first picked up a camera. A community. Friends who understand this strange mix of art and business. People who care about creating meaningful work and building lives around it.

That’s the real reason I keep coming back.

After my talk ended, there was a line of photographers waiting to talk, ask questions, take a photo, or just tell me the talk resonated with them.

Several people said the same thing in different ways:

“You made me believe I could actually do this.”

And that moment meant everything to me.

Because when I started my business, I was in a small town in one of the lowest income areas in the country. I was raising two kids and figuring everything out as I went.

So if sharing my story helps someone else see new possibilities for their own path, that is the greatest honor.

This week reminded me how much I love this industry.

I love creating for my clients.
I love learning and growing as an artist.
And I love teaching photographers how to build businesses that support their lives.

Speaking and educating feels like a path I’m only just beginning to explore.

And I’m very excited for what comes next.

PS -- I didn't get near as many photos with my favorite people so many faces missing on this post. I love you all and next year will take so many more!! 📷

I may be a full-on boy mom… but I’ll admit it, I’m always a little jealous of a good girl gang. 💕

There’s something so special about the bond between mothers, daughters, and granddaughters… the laughter, the stories, the quiet understanding that only comes from shared love across generations.

I especially love photographing grandmothers.
Because these moments aren’t just about photos.
They’re about being together.
About honoring the women who shaped your life.
About creating artwork that will hang in your home and remind you, every single day, how deeply you are loved.

And February feels like the perfect time to celebrate that kind of love. 🤍

If you’ve been thinking about documenting your story with the women who mean the most to you… this is your sign.

Was it just me or did January feel slow and fast at the same time?
Around here, January is basically an extension of the holidays: lots of family time, lots of gatherings. Since my in-laws moved into a tiny home on our property, our house has become the hub, and honestly… I’m really grateful for that.

We celebrated our oldest’s birthday (pineapple fried rice was the chosen menu 😄), soaked up bonus snow days, and went sledding more than once. One of my favorite parts of being my own boss is the ability to shift my schedule for moments like that. Every time I do, I’m reminded that building this business and the freedom it gives me is so worth it. Also: good coffee + a fireplace = undefeated.

I also have some exciting news I’m not quite ready to share yet… but we did close on a beautiful wooded property, and I’m working on plans to create something really special for my community, local and beyond. It’s going to be a good year. ✨

The month wrapped with my bi-yearly hair appointment (self-care was needed), and now I’m officially prepping for upcoming travel, starting with WPPI in Las Vegas in March. This is my first year speaking, and I’m beyond excited. My talk is all about building a successful, profitable photography business in any market, especially for small-town, rural, and underserved photographers. This business changed my life in the best ways, and I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned.

And if you’ve made it this far—thank you. Truly. Your support means more than you know.

PS. If you’re a photographer coming to WPPI, tell me below. Let’s connect in Vegas 🤍
