This past Sunday I had the honor and pleasure of photographing a baby sprinkle (shower) as a paid assignment. My fees are very modest compared to full-time pros but, in case clients aren't sure what effort goes into the final product, here are a couple of examples of what goes on behind the scenes. Much of the event took place in a church hallway with poor lighting, necessitating the use of flash. With flash there is inevitable glare. Thanks to Photoshop, I can fix those spots to show those pretty eyes unobstructed. Another issue was little area for clean (non-busy) portraits. The mother daughter portrait was cropped and then the wall decoration and the bowl on the table were cloned out. Ideally, this work, when done well, goes unnoticed, much like major league umpiring.

I spend a great deal of time watching video editing tutorials but I rarely produce anything. The other day at Great Falls National Park, MD, I took a few video clips and edited in some slow motion and music. I'm no Steven Spielberg but it's a start.

My late father-in-law, Bill Duddleson, was a gifted photographer who, over a very long life, captured and preserved gorgeous images of our natural world. After he died the family went through his things and found hundreds of slides and film negatives. The question then was how to show and share them with others. Thanks to YouTube, I learned how to construct a light box and take photos of the slides. I'm still working through all the variables to get good shots - combinations of extension tubes to focus closeup, apertures, shutter speeds, focal lengths, etc. I'm determined to digitize Bill's photos for posterity. I'll post samples soon. Here's my setup.

In my conversations with counseling clients at Asbury Methodist Village, when it comes to managing and minimizing anxiety and depression, I often recommend getting outside in the fresh air and sunshine whenever possible. Yesterday, I took my own advice and shot these images of the trees on the campus. Typical of me, I'm 1 1/2 or 2 weeks late for peak blooms but better late than never.

I had my camera at work yesterday to take portraits of the Asbury Friendly Visitors. I designed calling cards for them with their photo and phone number to leave when they visit a fellow resident. Back at the office, Nancy, our office manager, asked me to take photos of her, Michele and Christine who all happened to be wearing similar colors. We looked for a suitable spot and settled on a section of our kitchen/break room. This image was full of spontaneous fun but, I couldn't leave it at that. Oh Nooooo. I had to clone out the desk, the photo on the wall and the storage cabinet. With my level of Photoshop skills it was a tedious task but I like how it turned out.

Speaking of good light ... a few images of Yorktown from last weekend. The colors at sunset and twilight were beautiful.
