Aside from the fun of playing dress-up, my favorite thing about the work I do is giving women (and even men) the gift of feeling beautiful. Powerful. Confident.

Many people have come to my sessions and told me “I’m so self-conscious” or “I’m not photogenic” and then at the end, turn to me, grinning, and say “okay, that was great. I feel so pretty/beautiful/self-assured.”

That’s the prize. And the bonus is having photographic evidence of that feeling, so they never forget how amazing they truly are.

Other than “I don’t look good in photos”, the number one reason people shy away from having their picture taken - especially something on the editorial side - is that they believe they don’t know how to pose.

And honestly, almost no one does.

But that’s okay, because one really cool way to not feel self-conscious and awkward is to do the shoot with a friend. You’ll be too busy interacting with each other and playing around to remember there’s a camera pointed at you. So you get to dress up, have fun, get a little more comfortable in front of the camera, AND end some with some really awesome pics.

That’s a quadruple win, in my book.
