Little Seattle under huge Mt. Rainier!

It's funny how things can look from the air, under the right circumstances. On a recent flight, Rainier was standing out tall about the haze of summer, with the Seattle Skyline right below. The atmosphere must have been doing funny things, combines with lens compression, to make the mountain appear absolutely giant behind Seattle. This is one of my favorite views on any flight from the San Juan Islands to any point south!

Mt. Baker and the Sisters!

On a gorgeous summer afternoon, nothing beats a flight to the Cascade Mountains - the closest mountains to the San Juan Islands by plane, and I just love flying around Mt. Baker and taking in all the amazing scenery!

Moonrise over Cattle Point. This was a couple of nights after the full moon, and the smoke from the fires all around is playing with the colors, but I loved watching the moon come up over Cattle Point in San Juan Island with the Cattle Point Lighthouse providing a beacon of light in the darkness!

Sucia Island and Mount Baker - a couple of my favorite spots in the PNW!! Only 50 miles apart, it takes just minutes (ok about 30) to fly between the two. Yet living on San Juan Island, it takes nearly half a day to actually get to either. One of the perks of flying here is getting to see everything all at once. The downside is, not getting to touch very easily!

Looking across (nearly) the 49th Parallel! From the Patos Island Lighthouse to Mt. Baker, summer in the San Juan Islands and the Pacific Northwest is one of the most scenic times and places I’ve ever been!

Natures Fireworks are always the best! Lady Aurora came out to dance last night, and she put on one hell of a show! This was from between 11pm and 2:30am and wow what a way to say Happy 250th!

Summer Nights Under the Stars - My little spot in the gigantic Universe.

The summer solstice was an amazingly beautiful day and night in the San Juan Islands. The longest day of the year is also the shortest night, and I was lucky the half-moon set before toe pre-dawn so I could capture the Milky Way in all it's glory! I love love love this view of the Galaxy from Camp Everhappy - my outpost on Stuart Island, WA.

Shot with a Nikon Z8, Laowa 12mm f2.8 on a star tracker, 180 seconds, f4, iso 1000.

The other day I took my trusty Montauk out for a spin around the San Juan Islands and came across one of the only sea otters know to currently reside here! After decades of seeing none, it’s a real treat to have this guy hanging around. I’m just sorry I disrupted his so, but he didn’t seem too bothered by me and went back to sleep right after I took the last shot.

For those who may wonder, I am aware of the MMPA rules and kept my distance. These were shot with a 600mm lens on a Nikon Z8 and cropped heavily for detail.
