I have something to say runs way deeper than I thought. (I know so shocking for me 🤣😝)

I included it in my Words for Photographers curriculum but as I cull through another gorgeous session I also remembered that I treat every single person that walks in front of camera like they do to.

Cause you do.

You do have something so beautiful and special to say.

In words, photos, videos, art, or whatever medium you choose.

And to those who allow me to listen and be a part of that storytelling.

I'm grateful for you.

I try not to play favorites.

It's impossible too. I just end up having way too many favorites 🤣😭.

But this start of the day capture from my photoshoot in Arizona with the amazing was one of my favorite clicks of Q1.

I'm always pretty nervous about shooting outside of my Brooklyn studio. I'm a creature of habit that likes to know where everything is so I can minimize as many potential issues and stressors as possible.

But as I settle into my craft as a Photographer I'm realizing that not only are my problem solving skills up but I'm a lot less afraid of the things that can go wrong.

BTW things will always go wrong. I'm not good at what I do because I provide a perfect experience. I'm good at what I do because I can handle when things aren't and keep creating beauty. 💁🏿‍♀️

This session in Arizona was a great reminder that while having my safe places are important that I'm really good at what I do and can create beauty everywhere I go. Even without the bigger teams and familiar places.

And it didn't hurt to have this moment of independence with repeat client Steph who is one of the most beautiful, gracious and fun people I know.

The temperature is starting to feel like it could be the start of rooftop season at the studio. And yay. I love pausing our in studio time to climb up to the roof and capture some fun and free photos with the city as our backdrop.

Bold. Bold has come up 90% of the time when I'm getting to know a new client and I ask them to describe themselves or what they want in the photos we create together and I'm glad I've reached my target audience. 🎉🎉🎉

They feel bolder than ever. And that may have something to do with the fact that they feel more themselves than ever.

They've come to accept that they're just not average or "normal" and that's why bold is so important.

Because it takes boldness to show up anyway. It takes boldness to say I want to be photographed as I am when society tells us daily that it's only for certain types of people.

It takes boldness to not only accept yourself but to put who you are out there and stamp it as worthy because it is.

And if you are that kind of bold and you want to explore that boldness in the earrings you'll bring, the pose we decide on or the backdrop that frames you....

I'm your photographer.

I got to photograph the seriously brilliant and funny, author of The Body Liberation Project, and I'm still picking my face up off the floor.

When it comes to my work I feel honored that I get to photograph and capture OUR greats. The people amongst us who do incredible things big and small that send out ripple effects that change our world.

And Chrissy is absolutely one of those people. If you haven't already read her book, you should now!!! And thank you Chrissy for allowing me to capture this chapter in your story.

You know those moments you'll look back on and you can start to see exactly where your work started to shift.

This photoshoot with is one of those moments. Jacq wanted to create something beautiful and cool that really represented this moment for her.

She wanted to have the kind of shot her kids could look at and see what an incredible and badass mom they have.

And while it wasn't necessarily about her amazing brand. (Jacq is a fantastic copywriter) This session sparked an entire rebrand that she hadn't even intended.

We spent time creating stories for her looks because what else do you do when two writers work on a photoshoot together and I think it pushed me in a really great way.

I'm ready for more pushes. I'm ready for more creativity and heart when we really sit with the question that asks, who are you and who do you want to see?

That's right... Your headshot could be just as vivid, bright and professional as you are.

And when I say professional I am always talking to what professionalism means to you specifically because it is not one thing.

You don't have to do the often traditional (and no shade a tiny bit boring and lackluster) headshot that the rest of the folks in your company spent a few minutes creating.

I mean you can but why would you when instead you could create something so beautiful it becomes your favorite photo of all time.

How often do you hear that feedback about a headshot?

Why do traditional when we could do genuine and authentic?

Why blend in... When you could be the one everyone compliments when your bubble pops up on that zoom call? 👀

It's one of those jam-packed, highly emotional, ground shaking weeks that has allll of the feelings AND something divine led me over to this beautiful album created for me from our photoshoot a while back.

I forgot about them (it's been a while) which made flipping through them even better.

I'm glad that I took the photo on a good day to remind me of me on days that don't feel as great.

Glad to know that not only will the smile return but that it may light up the room when it does.
