Time is running out for the Ulmanor Farm property as we know it. Once the home of Nelson and Joyce Graves, the now combined 34.2 acre parcel in Fredericksburg's Central Park has been sold to developers, so this evening I set out to get some aerial photographs of the house before the machines of progress erase it forever. As I was waiting for the rain to stop, a rainbow formed on the property right in front of me. It was beautifully eerie.

I'm just now sitting down to go through some of the birding season photos from this past spring. I spend so much time on the river taking photos while the season is in that I don't leave myself time to go through them after they're taken. I just throw the albums on my computer to go through at a later date when I'm not so busy. I often have no idea what I've taken, so going through them can be pretty satisfying.

With that said, here's one I just came across from back on April 30th of this year: a territorial dispute between great blue herons. This is straight out of the camera - No edits, no adjustments, and no filters. There's no post processing on this whatsoever, it's not even cropped. Sometimes you just get that perfect lighting.

A hyperlapse of what was supposed to be a full blue moonrise just behind the Point Lookout Lighthouse last night as the sun set. Unfortunately, I miscalculated my angle and the moon rose a little more than a degree to the left than I was expecting. Also, because I was going for the maximum "wow" effect, I was shooting extremely tight (560mm) so there was absolutely no room for error. The only evidence of the moon in the video was the moon's shimmer on the water towards the end of the video. The moored sailboat along with its attached transport boat made for a neat effect though.

Mistakes made and lessons learned. My next attempt will be better.

Tonight's full moonrise over the Point Lookout Lighthouse. There are no tricks here, this was simply taken with a long focal length from far away (I was 1.7 miles from the lighthouse).
