Should I wear my glasses for my headshot? 👓

If you usually wear them the answer is absolutely! If you wear your glasses most of the time, your clients may not immediately recognize you without them!

In fact, if you are a glasses wearer I encourage you to bring more than one pair as it is a great way to switch up your look and give you more variety to choose from.

Glasses can present a challenge; the lenses may reflect my studio lights, especially if they do not have an anti-glare coating.

Sometimes it is possible to eliminate the glare by repositioning my lights or tilting the frames very slightly, but if there is still glare present I can make it considerably less noticeable when I edit the images.

I personally don’t advocate popping the lenses out for your shoot as it can look a little unnatural removing the lens distortion, but do make sure your lenses are nice and clean as the grease in our fingerprints becomes very noticeable under studio lighting, and I have lens cleaner and cloths so we can be sure they are camera ready!

Thomas came in to see me for updated headshots recently, and as you can see, he nailed it both with and without his specs!

If you are coming in to see me for an updated business headshot, it could also be the perfect opportunity to grab something a little less formal too!

A jacket and collared shirt might be the best option for LinkedIn, and your bio on the corporate website.

But something a little more casual and relaxed could be perfect for your podcast, as well as your company Intranet, Microsoft Teams, internal newsletters, Facebook and other social media!

One of the biggest compliments anyone can pay me as a photographer, is to refer their friends and family to me!

Does your company recruit veterans or those transitioning out of the military?

If so, and you have an office in the Greater Nashville region or a remote workforce, I would really appreciate the name and info for whoever is responsible for this.

I’d also love to have the details of anyone that provide resources to military members that could potentially ease the transition to a civilian career - for instance, no-cost/special rates for resume writing services etc.

I am planning to create a list of local resources to provide to my Portraits For Patriots clients.

I’ve learned there are plenty of resources out there, but some of them seem to be well kept secrets, and there doesn’t appear to be a comprehensive directory for this area.

I’d like to rectify that, unless someone can point me in the direction of one that already exists.

Portraits of Patriots is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization with a mission is to ensure that everyone that comes through the program benefits from a high quality professional headshot to aid their transition.

I get to meet some really talented people who have valuable skills and experience ready to bring to corporate life!

Does your profile photo look professional?

If you've followed my work for a while, you've no doubt noticed I am a fan of big smiles!

A smile, big or small makes us look friendly and approachable, so an authentic looking smiling headshot is perfect if you are in sales, and most other customer facing roles.

But a big smile may not be appropriate for every circumstance, and if you work in a senior finance role, corporate security, or are say a prosecutor, your may want to have a more stoic expression in your headshot.

Nader is a negotiator and needed his headshot to convey strength and determination. I reckon he nailed it, don't you?
