Evidence of His goodness 🕊️

Taking a big exhale this October and it’s felt so needed. Most of my Octobers for the past 15 years have felt like a blink, completely filled with deadlines and shoots and weddings and all of it (of which I’m SO thankful for). But I’ve missed them.

I’ve missed observing the seasonal transition as green turns to purples and mauve and the only kind of orange I like. I’ve missed the delicate cooling of air, the awkward phase of “I should wear a sweater today but actually maybe not because it’s going to be 72 later”. It’s often felt like my summers turn straight into winters, and that’s just not okay with a Florida girl like me.

I didn’t experience seasons as a child, but this adult version of me can see the purpose in them—a purpose God designed. A slowing down, a settling, a cherishing, only to be met with new life and long-awaited sun in the spring. It all points to Him. Nature amazes me, but it doesn’t stop there—the worship always lands on Jesus, the Creator.

Deep breath in, and a long breath out. I hope you can feel that exhale this season ✨

(P.S. I don’t think I’ve ever posted a photo dump from my iPhone??? Perfectionism me is protesting, but no cares me is winning!)

The end of one chapter and the start of another —

We’re closing our doors 🤍 I can’t believe I’m actually posting this, but it’s time. I’ve felt the nudge for years now if I’m being honest, and when I had Jane, my soul just knew my career would be ending very soon.

I have wrestled and prayed and cried and cried and cried about this decision. So many dreams for my business remain just dreams, and I’ve placed them in the very capable hands of Jesus. Maybe one day He’ll bring some of those to fruition down the line, and maybe not. Either way, I have total peace in this decision, though it feels like a massive step of faith.

I feel so privileged to be able to give all of my attention to Jane. For me, raising her is my highest dream come true, an honor in every sense of the word. I will miss so much about this business, but am overjoyed at the thought of intentionally mothering that little girl.

To those of you who have invested in me, I cannot thank you enough. Some of you have been here from the very, very beginning, and that boggles my mind. Documenting each and every one of you was….joy. Pure and utter joy. I cannot believe the places my little teenage hobby has taken me, the people I’ve met, the memories I’ve shared with Joey traveling and working together. We are so immensely thankful. To each and every one of you, please accept a teary-eyed squeeze hug of virtual gratitude 🫶🏻

We have a few things left on the calendar this year and next, and I may take a family session here and there (still praying through this aspect of things). Obeying is hard. But I’m confident the Lord will meet me on the other side, and I’m really expectant for whatever is over there.

It’s wedding weekend for us here in Nashville—thinking back to this amazing reception just outside of Atlanta 💫

The anticipation of documenting weddings is hard to explain. I find myself envisioning so many moments while also feeling immense wonder for the moments that are bound to unfold without any planning at all. On wedding days, we take on the roles of art directors, lighting aficionados, composers. Perhaps our favorite roles, though, are observers. Before every wedding, we pray that we may have eyes to see—really see—the people in front of us. It’s this kind of soul seeing that makes all the difference for us, both in imagery and experience.

We’re here for the people. And if we get some beautiful design and impeccable details along the way, how fun! But it’s the people that make the photos. It’s their story. We can’t wait to document the symphony of Jake and Sarah’s love story on Saturday. I can hear the music starting, and man is it beautiful 🤍

Couldn’t have imagined all the joy ahead of me being Jane’s mom. Those dark days planted in tears have truly been harvested with shouts of joy, just like the Psalmist wrote. I remember posting that verse in faith the morning of my endo surgery in 2023, and now I can say I fully know the depths of it.

The Carters at home ✨

Since having Jane, I’ve come to a much deeper appreciation for documenting the family. I cried the other day about sending Jane to kindergarten, and we’re still over 4.5 years away, so. It’s going well on the emotional front 🫠
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m keenly aware of the passage of time—I’ve always been this way, but even more so now. Moms would always tell me how their children changed so quickly, but I didn’t realize it would be almost daily.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My camera is nearly a permanent fixture in our living room now, ready for use in the most mundane of moments. To me, though, each is miraculous. We had quite the journey to Miss Jane, and now there’s innumerable pixels making up her little face in countless images. Wild.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Creating a family archive for our children will always be a priority for us —

Shooting the film.

Filming little and big moments on our camcorder (and hopefully Super 8mm soon!).

It’s not so much about us leaving a legacy as much as it is about cherishing the everyday and showing our kids their irreplaceable role in our family’s story.
