When we started trying to grow our family seven years ago, it never once occurred to me that we might face challenges. I had lived on an organic farm, exercising and feeding my body with the most nourishing food nearly every day of my life. To top it off I’d never even been on hormonal birth control, and could read my cycles like a book. People like me didn’t have infertility, right? My naivety is embarrassing to admit and it turns out I was very wrong - Infertility is no respecter of persons.

Despite having a very different experience than I ever dreamed, God showed himself real to me, worked miracles and led us to amazing doctors. And I’m so thankful for every shot and every medication that helped to make our family a reality. It was worth it all!

We each have stories of how things in our life turned out differently than we expected. For me it’s my journey to motherhood, what is it for you?

This sweet family welcomed another baby girl last week and I can’t wait to do their in home newborn session in just a few days! Isn’t big sister so cute and adoring? And the daisies were the perfect addition to the photos. I love the flower surprises that come with spring and summer photo sessions here in middle Tennessee. 🌸💕

This is us and here’s a little behind the scenes story. Last year we took fall photos and when I looked at them I cried… not because they weren’t beautiful - the leaves were ablaze with color and we were at one of our favorite spots. I cried not because I wasn’t incredibly thankful for our family and the adorable son we’d been given… I cried because the picture I saw looked so different than I imagined it would.

I saw a nearly three year old boy who was looking so grown up. I saw that he was alone and I felt the deep ache that two years of trying to give your child a sibling will lodge in your heart. I saw my empty arms that would have been holding a baby had we not lost another pregnancy that year… it was too painful to look at those photos, so I put them away on a hard drive. What I didn’t know was those would be our last fall photos as a family of three and that only a few days later we would find out that another child was being given to us.

And now I sit here looking at this year’s fall photos, and I feel like crying, but for very different reasons. My heart and arms are so full right now.

I will never forget the season of waiting and the pain of loss. Holidays can be a difficult time when you are in this season. If this is your current experience I want to remind you:

Two things can be true; we can be grateful for all we’ve been given, while also holding deep sadness for what we’ve lost. One experience doesn’t invalidate the other.

And also, hang onto HOPE. So much can change in one year and soon you will look back and realize your are living the answers to yesterdays prayers.

Fall is just around the corner and I’ve had fun going back and looking at some of the many photo sessions I shot last year and never posted. Here is a favorite! This is the sweetest family and I love how tender the siblings love on each other. 🥰

I adore this forest motherhood session! ✨

The colors and light fall differently in the woods, and it’s not where I typically shoot. But this was such a fun change and it felt so magical!

August brought us the most beautiful gift, and I’ve been staring at this sweet face ever since. 🥰

So if I’ve been slow to reply to emails or texts that’s why… but I’m so excited about the fall season ahead and all the lovely families I’ll get to photograph! I only have a couple spots left for mini sessions, so definitely head to the link in my bio if you’ve been waiting to book. I am not doing as many sessions this year, so space is limited.

We are ready for you baby girl! 💗

As I sit here in this expectant season of waiting, my heart is full of gratitude. Yes, gratitude for this incredible gift we’ve been given, but also gratitude for the journey. The goodness of God has been shown to me through every stage. Even the hardest, most painful moments… still the goodness of God was there. I found it in the quiet, in worship music, in friendships, and the way our next step was always laid out before us at exactly the time we needed.

If you are in a season of painful waiting, or find yourself with empty arms, I won’t tell you that “everything works out for good” or that “Gods time is perfect.” Because I know how these words hurt when nothing is good or perfect… but I will pray that on the other side you will share in my experience of a heart washed and overflowing with gratitude for the journey, even the hardest parts. ❤️

PS I can’t believe these photos are actually from OUR maternity session! 😍 A big thanks to for helping to bring my photo dreams to reality. It was a miserably hot evening, but I will always treasure these moments with the people I love most captured on our own property.

Another sweet mother daughter session this time with Chelsea and her adorable twins. 😍😍

The light was magically as we wandered around this old plantation and explored the gorgeous mansion. I loved the arches and intricate detail everywhere and look forward to shooting here again sometime. ✨

It may feel like summer, but now is the time to be booking your FALL photos! 🍂
