Definitely a sight to behold! Funny story.. while I was at the parking area flying my drone I sat down at one of the picnic tables. I took several little videos with my drone and was focused on capturing some unique drone footage. However I kept feeling something on my pants leg. Initially I ignored it thinking it is probably just a bug or something, but then the weight against my leg became much harder to ignore. I look down and a black snake was trying to slither up my leg! 🤯😳 You can easily imagine my reaction when I looked down and realized a snake was on my leg. Words were screamed. Panic was had. Yikes! 😬 I landed that drone so fast, and I was out of there!

Just jokes! Mostly 👀🤣 But this was too funny of a sound not to use!

Young fawns are naturally curious. They’ll investigate almost anything that catches their attention, learning the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest one encounter at a time. It’s amazing to witness those first lessons unfold. Lewis County, WV

A coyote’s hearing is so sharp that it can detect the faint rustling of a mouse or vole beneath thick vegetation, often from well over 100 feet away. Once it pinpoints the sound, it uses its incredible hearing, eyesight, and sense of smell to zero in before making the signature pounce that so often ends in a successful hunt. Spending time with this beautiful coyote reminded me why they’re are among the most intelligent and adaptable predators in North America. They don’t rely on speed alone. They rely on patience, precision, and senses honed by survival. Braxton County, WV

A few days ago, I finally captured what I consider a decent photograph of a West Virginia coyote. These animals are incredibly intelligent, cautious, and among the most elusive predators in our state. Most of the time, they know you’re there long before you ever know they’re watching. I’m still in shock that I was able to spend a few moments with this beautiful female and come away with several photographs. Encounters like this are exactly why I keep heading into the woods. You never know what the next bend in the trail might reveal. Braxton County, WV

The cubs may steal the spotlight, but every adventure begins with momma. Hidden among the summer green, she stood watch with quiet confidence, making sure every climb, every step, and every curious moment ended safely. The forest has no greater protector than a mother with cubs. Lewis County, WV

After work, Tabby and I decided to spend the evening doing what we love most.. driving the backroads in search of wildlife. It was hot, humid, and honestly not the kind of evening that usually inspires much hope. We figured we’d wait for the sun to dip lower before expecting to see much of anything.

As we slowly made our way toward home, Tabby suddenly spotted movement along a creek just off the road. A momma black bear and her two cubs.

The cubs wasted no time scrambling up a nearby tree while momma calmly climbed onto the first flat above the creek, keeping a watchful eye on them. By then it was nearly dark beneath the thick canopy of leaves, and the light was disappearing by the second. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to capture anything at all.

Somehow, one frame came together.

It’s not every day you stumble upon a scene like this, and even in the fading light, this little cub made the entire evening worth it. Moments like these are exactly why we keep exploring, even when it feels like the odds are against us. Lewis County, WV

Don’t let the stripes fool you, beneath that famous warning pattern is one of the most gentle and fascinating little mammals in our forests. Watching this youngster explore the world was a reminder that every creature has its place, and every encounter is worth appreciating. Gilmer County, WV
