Nobody told her that doing something just for herself would feel this different.

Not selfish. Not indulgent. Not the guilty pleasure she'd been bracing for.

Just... right.

Like something that had been waiting patiently for her to finally say yes.

She spent one whole day at The Velvet Noir Studio and nobody needed anything from her. Nobody was pulling at her attention or her energy or her time. The only agenda was her.

Here is something I believe with everything I have.

The real version.

The one that walks into a room and changes the energy without trying. The one that laughs and the whole space feels it. The one that holds things together with a particular kind of quiet strength that the people around her take for granted because it has always just been there.

She stopped asking for permission a while back.

Permission to take up space. To want things. To do something entirely for herself without running it through the filter of whether everyone else approves.

And something opened up in that decision.

She almost rebooked three times before she finally just went.

The first time something came up with the kids. The second time she talked herself out of it. The third time she just... sat with the DM typed out and didn't send it for two weeks.

And then she sent it.

And showed up at The Velvet Noir Studio on a Wednesday morning in October wondering if she'd made the right call.

By the time hair and makeup was done she already knew.

Not because anything dramatic had happened. Because she'd spent an hour and a half being taken care of in a way that she hadn't let herself be taken care of in years. Laughing about real things. She's been with him for a while now.

And she loves him. Completely. Without question.

But somewhere in the comfortable beautiful routine of loving someone that well... she stopped doing things just for herself.

Not because he asked her to. Because that's just what happens when you're busy building a life together. Your own desires start to feel less urgent than the shared ones.

Until one day she looked up and thought — when was the last time I did something that was entirely mine???

You expect the glow to be temporary. You expect to walk out of The Velvet Noir Studio feeling amazing and then slowly drift back into ordinary life and ordinary feelings and the ordinary version of yourself that existed before.
That's not what happens.
