Kansas had a full agenda on Saturday: mud, storms, heat, repeat. Riders came through caked head to toe, pushed through flooded crossings, and somehow kept pedaling when most people would’ve called an Uber. Unbound 200 delivered every bit of its reputation and then some.

As for me, my day started breaking my speedlight at the start line. Running to the car, it just snapped of the hot shoe. I hit the mud at Mile 115. Went down on my butt, cameras flying out of my hands and rolling through the mud, surrounded by a full audience of fellow photographers who absolutely witnessed every second of it.

After that it was soaked through at Mile 100 when the rain arrived, then slow-roasting in the Kansas heat for the last third. Riders and photographer alike, nobody walked away clean today.

And so it begins… 350 miles of Kansas limestone, rolling Flint Hills, and whatever the sky decides to throw at it. The XL is under way. One very long night ahead before anyone gets to call themselves a finisher.

is around the corner… and if going south means anything, we might be in for another year of pure Flint Hills chaos.

These shots are from the 2022 & 2023 mud years. Some of the most unforgettable race days out there.

Now it’s 2026 and the route heads south again.

So what’s the prediction:
Muddy carnage or fast and dry this year?

“Every journey begins the same way.
One breath. One step. One quiet decision to begin.
The marathon is not won at the finish line. It is built in the early mornings, the long roads, the moments when stopping felt easier than going on.

But you kept going.
You laced up your shoes in the dark. You ran through rain, through doubt, through every voice that said you weren’t ready.
You showed up anyway.

There is something profound about a person who chooses hard things. Not because it is easy. Not because the outcome is certain. But because the act of trying, of truly trying, changes you in ways nothing else can.
Today is not about distance. It is not about time.

Today is about what it means to be human, to push, to endure, to discover that somewhere beyond the doubt and the fatigue… there is a version of you that was always capable of this.

The road ahead is long. There will be miles that test you. There will be moments of silence where it is just you and the sound of your own footsteps, and in that silence, you will find out what you are made of.

One story.
Yours.”

The last two days have been mentally exhausting.
The murder of an innocent, unarmed US citizen in Minnesota and the subsequent lies from the federal government made the last few days difficult.
Yesterday morning, I had to put down my phone after watching videos that made me tear up.
I wonder what’s happening in this country. When will this nonsense stop?
When will people wake up and realize they’ve been lied to to enrich a few at the expense of our democracy?

2025, pulled from the archive.

Twenty images that stood out for different reasons. Some for how hard it was to make the photo, others for what was happening just outside the frame.

Swipe through and tap the one you’d keep.
Or share your favorite moment from 2025 on a bike.

Appreciate everyone who crossed paths this year.

I’m excited for a better 2026.
