Kaley spent ten years in production. A decade of being the person behind the camera, making everyone else look good.

Then she moved to Florida and decided she wanted to try the other side.

I asked her why. She said it's easy to get caught up in the structure of life, and it's fun to shock yourself and do something different. I've been thinking about that line for two weeks.

So we built her a session for it. Color chart first, so she knew exactly what to bring. Then an hour in the studio and five to eight different looks — the smiley commercial stuff and the film-and-TV stuff, all in one go.

She picked her top six. Her text when she saw them: "They look great!" 😊

"Even if you just started out, you don't need to look like you just started out."

I said that to Marcos on the phone last Monday, and I meant it.

He'd found me on Google. He'd just joined Berkshire Hathaway and was aiming at the luxury market. His first question wasn't about price — it was "what should I wear?" White shirt, jacket, bring a couple of options. We settled the wardrobe before he ever walked through the door, because half of a good headshot is decided before the camera comes out.

Here's the part most people get wrong about a headshot session. They think the goal is one photo. It isn't. Marcos gave me an hour, and in that hour we shot everything he could possibly need for the next five years — brokerage profile, website, LinkedIn, print, the ad he hasn't thought of yet. One sitting, years of runway.

He picked two. Retouched and in his hands the next day.

When someone gets a referral to your name, the first thing they do is look you up. What they find should look like the person you're about to become, not the person you were three jobs ago.

Nicholas didn't come in for a nicer headshot. He came in for the right impression.

He's a consultant, and the people across the table from him decide whether they trust him in about two seconds — long before he's made his case. So a branding session, for him, wasn't about vanity. It was about signal. Every choice in this frame is quietly doing a job: the steady eye line, the stillness, the "I've done this before" in the posture. Nothing loud. All of it deliberate.

That's the difference between a photo that shows what you look like and one that tells people who you are.

Meet Gavin Anderson.

He is making a move most people only talk about. Leaving health insurance, going independent, and building a life insurance practice with his own name on it.

He walked in already clear on the whole thing. Faith. Family. Generational wealth. Protection. Fitness. He wanted a logo, brand colors, fonts, and a face that belonged on all of it.

Eleonor came to us the best way anyone can — her agent recommended us, and so did a friend.

She's an actor, in for commercial headshots, which means a few different looks that all still, unmistakably, read as her. This rust top was a favorite the second it came up on screen. The freckles, the curls, the real smile — none of that gets "fixed" here. That's the whole point.

Her agent pulled the selects, Eleonor added a couple of her own, and the gallery was off to her portfolio the same morning.

This headshot was planned eleven days before we took it.

When Douglass booked with us, he was getting serious about commercial acting — which means his headshot had one job: look like a guy casting directors want in the room.

So before the session, we did the homework together. His color chart. A wardrobe call — dark tones, real texture, no flat black. Even the haircut got scheduled three days ahead, because a fresh cut needs a weekend to look right for the camera.

That's the Campbell Method: the photo is decided before the camera comes out. The session is just where it shows up.

He came in to pick two. He left with four.

When Wayne booked with us, the ask was simple: one clean headshot for the company website. In, out, done.

Then his color chart showed up before the shoot — and the man did his homework. Black suit, no tie, a summer blue pulled straight from his palette. (Better dressed than most of us manage on a good day, honestly.)

So by the time he sat down, the only problem left was the one we actually warn people about: too many good ones. Two became four. His whole gallery was in his inbox by the next morning.

That's the whole recipe — a little color science, an easy conversation, and a photo that finally looks like the guy his clients actually meet. Not a stiffer, stranger version of him.

Esther came in for her headshots this week a little nervous — which, for the record, is how almost everyone starts.

Ten minutes in she'd relaxed and we were just chatting, and the camera kind of took care of itself.

Her favorite part was the color chart — we go through it together to find the colors that genuinely suit you, and the moment she landed on this deep burgundy, that was the one. Look at her… of course it was.

She'd barely started scrolling her gallery before she messaged to say how much she loved them. That never gets old.

A professional headshot doesn't have to flatten the personality out of you.
Look at the shirt — hearts, hand-drawn, every color. Not the safe navy blazer everyone assumes a "professional" photo requires. And it's exactly right, because it's her.
Somewhere along the way we all picked up the idea that a headshot means serious, neutral, buttoned-up — like the job is to sand off everything that makes you you until only "professional" is left.
We think that's backwards.
The people who love their photos are almost always the ones who showed up as themselves: their real smile, their real energy, the shirt they actually wanted to wear. Our whole job is to build a room easy enough that the real you feels safe to show up — and then stay out of its way.
Professional and personable were never opposites. A good headshot proves it in a single frame.
