I am very excited to announce the 16 photographers invited to participate in "Silver and Salt" - an historical analog photography exhibition. I am curating the show at my studio/gallery in Fort Collins. March is Denver's bi-annual Month of Photography Festival, and there are 100s of great exhibits, events, talks, reviews etc. all over the state. The exhibition opens March 7th, gallery hours Friday and Saturday, 12-5pm, through March 29th.

The "Silver and Salt" exhibition features a variety of historic methods for creating photographs - gum bichromate, platinum and palladium prints, salted paper prints, a variety of toned cyanotypes, as well as wet plate collodion "tintypes" and gelatin silver prints.

A while back I was lucky enough to be able to photograph the historic water works in Fort Collins. Unfortunately the weather was not cooperating and the heat and humidity created loads of technical issues. As well as my dog jumping into the tub containing the last tintype and smudging it 😭.
Posting the plates anyway, ;) "always an amateur" I say!
September 21 is the Poudre Landmarks Foundation historic home tour. The waterworks will be open too, 10am-3pm, so plan to visit and learn something about the history of Fort Collins.

It’s very disappointing when chemical issues crop up in the wet plate collodion process. For reasons yet to be determined, the images dissolved in the varnish. Some dissolved while being developed. All my trouble shooting points to the developer, as good plates were made after switching back to previously used chemistry; these plates varnished without complications. Two plates used with the bad solution will remain un-varnished. The photograph is too precious to me. It will be curious to see how the image degrades, as the reaction to create the pure silver was obviously flawed, and I suspect it’s current state will change. “Always an amateur” 😉 , and forever something new to learn working with this historic alchemy.
