Three years ago, a birthday present changed everything.

What started as a camera slowly became Pixcapades—but this business was never built by just one person.

My husband has supported the dream from the beginning and stepped in as a second shooter more times than I can count. My 15-year-old daughter has joined me on almost every proposal shoot lately… despite the fact that she absolutely hates hiking. 😂

But this story goes deeper than business.

Photography and the outdoors helped me rebuild my confidence, regain my independence, and find my way back into the world after a really difficult season of my life. And these two walked beside me through so much of that journey.

Now, as Pixcapades grows and I begin bringing more photographers onto the team, I wanted to take a moment to honor the two people who helped me get here.

Dominic trusted me with a very specific vision for his proposal, and hearing that the moment actually played out the way he had imagined it in his head is one of the biggest compliments I could receive.

There is SO much planning that happens behind the scenes with surprise proposals—timing, hiding spots, passing points, lighting, scenery, communication, and figuring out how to be close enough to capture everything without ruining the surprise.

I finally have a little break between shoots and editing to slow down long enough to actually post some of what I’ve been up to. 😂

The end of July and the first half of August have gone by in an absolute BLUR — early mornings, mountain trails, secret plans, nervous proposers, happy tears, and a whole lot of “YES!” 💍🏔️

And apparently I should enjoy this tiny breather while it lasts, because the last week of August starts the blur all over again. 😂

So before I disappear back into the mountains, here are a few of my favorite shots from some of the proposals I’ve had the privilege of capturing over the past few weeks.

I seriously love this job. Every proposal is completely different — different couples, different stories, different reactions — and somehow I still get excited every single time I’m hiding on a trail waiting for that big moment to happen.

He flew from Canada with a plan, a love story, and the most important question of his life. 💍

Sergey reached out through Facebook asking for something private and intimate — a sunrise proposal at a mountain lake, no crowds. Tetiana is shy. He wanted every detail perfect. He even asked me to pick up flowers for her. "The extra touch on the cake," he said.

I suggested Sprague Lake in RMNP. On the morning of July 3rd, wildfire smoke turned the sunrise into a breathtaking pink glow over everything.

I set up on a rock near the dock — just another hiker waiting for sunrise. My daughter took her place around the bend. We let them walk past... then we followed.

They reached the small peninsula halfway around the lake. And then — a moose came running across the water. 🦌

Sergey had joked that if Tetiana wasn't facing the right direction, he'd tell her to look at a moose. The mountains were listening.

He got her to walk out for a photo with it. She did. Then he got down on one knee.

I watched her sway back and forth, wringing her fingers, smiling from ear to ear as his words washed over her. Love pouring from him with every breath. 💖 She said YES.

At the end of their walk? A mama moose and baby were at the shore, the little one splashing and playing. 🦌

Sergey texted me later: "Thanks so much for making the proposal a special and unforgettable experience! I was nervous but you guys made it easy!"

The look on her face says it all. 😍

This is pure, unfiltered joy — captured candidly at Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. She had no idea I was even there.

🏔️ Elevate Your Proposal 💍

📍Sprague Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park
Elevation: 8,690 ft

Sometimes the mountains have a way of making the perfect plan even better.

While planning his proposal, Sergey told me he might point out a moose to get Tetiana to walk a few steps ahead so he could quickly get down on one knee behind her. We laughed about it... never expecting Rocky Mountain National Park to actually make it happen.

As they reached the proposal spot, a cow moose casually walked across the far side of Sprague Lake. Sergey told Tetiana to look, she turned toward the moose, and in that perfect moment he dropped to one knee. ❤️

As if that wasn't enough mountain magic, we finished the session by being greeted by a mama moose and her baby, glowing beautifully in the morning sun. Three moose in one proposal session... I'd call that pretty incredible! 🫎✨

The water had just enough breeze to create soft ripples across the lake, while the morning light wrapped everything in that peaceful alpine glow that makes Sprague Lake such a special place.

Congratulations, Sergey & Tetiana! Thank you for trusting me to capture one of the biggest moments of your lives. Your proposal is one I'll be talking about for a long time.
